Conversations with Amir Marvasti

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Amir Marvasti again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Amir, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
I am Amir Marvasti, an eye surgeon based in Southern California. I joined a physician-owned group called Coastal Vision with the objective of expanding our practice while delivering premium eye care in a friendly and trustworthy environment.

Awesome, so we reached out because we wanted to hear all about what you have been up to since we last connected.
As one of the younger surgeons in my community, my primary aim has been to expand my patient base by focusing on exceptional quality of care and enhancing the patient experience. I have also increased my presence on social media, sharing patient stories and educational videos, while keeping the content engaging and enjoyable. I firmly believe that to effectively care for others, one must also prioritize self-care. Therefore, I have been concentrating on my personal growth, both internally and externally. By establishing a more routine and structured workout regimen, adopting a healthier diet, and exploring books on personal development every few months, I have noticed an improvement in my overall well-being. I am channeling this newfound energy into my practice, benefitting my patients and my professional environment.

We also want to give folks a chance to get to know you a bit better so we’ve prepared a fun lightning round of questions. Ready?

Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
In my perspective, taking risks is integral to achieving significant rewards. I see people as either risk-takers or non-risk-takers, though I acknowledge there’s a spectrum of risk-taking behavior. Personally, I believe in embracing smart, calculated risks to maximize the potential for success. My approach begins with identifying a goal—often inspired by a dream—and then evaluating whether my future self could accept having not even attempted to reach that ambition. If the answer is no, then taking the risk becomes a more straightforward decision for me, as it aligns with my values and aspirations. Moreover, this mindset helps me cope with failure, as I know I made an earnest attempt.

In addition to my philosophy on risk, I continuously seek opportunities to learn and grow, both personally and professionally. By surrounding myself with inspiring mentors and staying open to new experiences, I strive to push the boundaries of what I can achieve. Embracing a proactive attitude and adapting to changing circumstances has been crucial to my personal and career development. Through this balance of risk-taking and strategic planning, I aim to make meaningful contributions to my field and inspire others to courageously pursue their own dreams.
