Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Alexander.
Hi Amy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My photography journey started when my husband drove 2 hours away to pick up a camera I wanted so bad from a friend who was letting it go for cheap, the good ole’ Nikon D3400. I was always that one person who friends and family would describe me as the one who is forever taking photos and videos on their phone. The one who NEVER put her phone down. It wasn’t because I was on social media or browsing around but the one snapping every little photo or video. I was even made fun of it for such a long time but it never changed me for what I admired in doing. What motivated me the most in capturing pure moments was when I would ask family members for photos of myself growing up and there was hardly any. When I tell you that changed me on my views on images and videos. Videos and images stay and last for so long, why wouldn’t someone want something so precious to keep forever and passdown? That is when I found my purpose. My purpose to create images for families, friends, businesses, etc.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not… let me try not to cry. I have always struggled with being the one in front of the camera. I take photos of myself but to keep to myself and of course for my husband. I totally get it when I get individuals message me telling how shy they are or how they are not a “model” material.” That is where I feel like it is my duty as the one behind the lens to make them feel the most beautiful person on this planet because let’s be honest, WE ALL ARE! I don’t think a lot of my clients understand how much they help me. They help me tremendously. I mean TREMENDOUSLY! My anxiety and depression can put me in such a dark hole sometimes but when I meet and bring images to life for them and see how much they admire what I did for them, THAT MAKES IT ALL WORTH IT. Worth every little bit.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Photography and slowly learning videography. I specialize in candid photography. I can say I am known for always being so uplifting in my sessions. The one who is getting the mood just right even when we both have sweaty hands because lets be honest, who doesn’t in front of a camera? I am most proud of seeing my work in my clients home and creating friendships through my passion. Now, what sets me apart from others is that I love meeting my clients in person before every session and chatting up over our favorite tea or coffee but again, that might not set me apart from others. That was a tricky one.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Being that I have been in San Diego for a year now, I love beaches! Now, please do not get me started on this traffic, oh my goodness!!
