Conversations with Anabella Bilicki

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anabella Bilicki.

Anabella, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It’s hard for me to pinpoint a single defining moment that marked the beginning of my artistic journey as a musical artist. That’s because, for as long as I can remember, music has been an essential part of my life. I see it as the soundtrack to every high and low I’ve experienced. It’s something I turn to—whether to celebrate, cope, heal, grow, love, or simply process whatever life throws at me.

I grew up playing piano, guitar, and singing. Through that, I came to realize that music wasn’t just a soundtrack I could rely on—it was a language more powerful than words, a medium through which I could fully express myself artistically. As a young girl, this led me to write songs as a way to express and process what I was going through. At the time, I saw music composition as a deeply intimate and therapeutic part of my life.

It wasn’t until years later, in my late teens, that I began to seriously consider pursuing music production professionally. As I started attending music festivals, I found myself amazed by music’s power to heal and connect thousands of diverse people at once. That ability—to help and unite people through something as universal as music—inspired me to create for the very same reason.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My production journey hasn’t followed a conventional path. As a self-taught musician navigating the world of music production, there isn’t a roadmap. I didn’t officially begin producing electronic music until I was around 22. Before that, I had an outside source who needed no name that halted my progress. I’ve had to overcome many hurdles—some of which, honestly, were my own doing. Starting from quitting my job to fully produce music, I knew it would be hard. I decided to make myself my whole team and not source from the outside. It’s a lot of work, but I truly can’t imagine a life where I’m not doing music all day, every day. Every obstacle, “no,” every bit of doubt has only made me stronger and more determined.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a music producer who doesn’t DJ. I specialize in techno and drum n bass mainly, but have a passion for all genres of music. I do graphic design as well and make all my album art + any visuals you see on my page. I am known best for always having my laptop out at parties and “cooking” up anywhere I go. In the last 3 years, I have to say I’m most proud of authentically releasing my music and not holding back despite what anyone has to say. As far as what sets me apart, I dont DJ and am completely self-taught. I make Berlin warehouse techno, and that is just not something you hear around these parts.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am a huge supporter of risk-taking. I pride myself on doing things that others are not, always ready to test the limits. Risks are meant to be taken, and rules are meant to be broken. A major risk I took was putting out an album only a year after starting producing. I look back now, and even though some of the songs are haywire, I’m so happy I took the chance. My perspective on risk is that life is way too short not to give 200% and take the chance. It may not work out, and some people may hate it, but at least you tried. At the end of the day, everyone is going to interpret your craft or art differently, so why not just do whatever the f you want.
