Conversations with Angela Adelmeyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Adelmeyer.

Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
approximately 20 years ago, an occupational therapist (my partner) and social worker (myself) decided to try a new business venture. Bonita Florist had been an established family business for 20+ years, the original owners were retiring and decided to sell the business. Bonita florist has been serving three, four generations of families throughout the years with their events such as weddings, proms, funerals and retirements.
its a heartwarming feeling when we get customers telling us their grandparents got their flowers from us, or their parents bought their prom corsage form us and now their son or daughter is attending prom and they come to us one again.

we not only create one of a kind arrangements for every occasion, but we try to work within a persons budget, as we believe flowers should be a piece of art everyone should afford, especially during difficult economic times.
we have been told by our customers that our flowers last a long time, as we explain proper care of blooms so the they can enjoy their arrangement for a longer period of time. What we hear most often is the our customer service is one of a kind, we really embrace customers to be a part of our Bonita Florist family, and so they are treated a such. Bonita Florist celebrated its 41st anniversary this year as we continue to provide blooms and love in our community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The main challenge we have experienced has been when our customers experience hardships because of a pandemic, war, or other circumstances out of our control. What we have done over the years is modify our business practices in order to maintain our customers happy and coming back. Time and time agin we have learned that putting people before profits has been a challenge indeed, but has kept us going for all these years.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Bonita Florist provides bloom for many different occasions. Our specialty is having an empathetic staff who transforms every customers feelings into a piece of art. We strongly believe that an arrangement should be a reflective representation of what the customer is trying to convey with their flowers. It is important to understand and translate their emotion, intent and feelings into a piece of floral art. Sympathy flowers are a very good example of this, as they are a persons last expression of who they were in life, so we create a piece to reflect their personality, wether they were a barber , a musician, a Gardner, their essence comes through in out arrangements.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Chula Vista is a beautiful city with beautiful people. Our customers, we believe, are as nice as can be. Most have been coming to us for years, so we get to know them and their famiies quite well. Although we like to provide efficient customer service, we notice that our customer prefer to linger after placing their orders just to enjoy friendly conversation, so many times it becomes a meeting place for neighbors to catch up on things.
Chula Vista traffic would be our least favorite thing. as with any large city traffics can be a challenge, especially when schools are in session.
