Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Valenzuela
Hi Antonio, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Antonio & I go by ‘Tones’. Im a DJ that was born into a family of DJs as crazy as it sounds. I grew up listening to nothing but house music, some of my earliest memories was always listening to ‘Call On Me’ By Eric Prydz & ‘Lady’ by Modjo. Growing up I never understood DJing but I just knew I wanted to be one. I even remember in 4th grade, they went around asking the kids in the class what they wanted to be when they got older. Everyone said theirs & when it finally got to me I said “I want to be a DJ” once I said that everyone laughed & as kid I had no idea why! Now that I look back at it I chuckle because I obviously see why now but hey look at the times now. Overtime going through Junior High & High School I lost touch with my love of house & EDM. I just started listening to rap music & started “following the crowd”. It wasn’t until I went to Coachella ’19 that I rediscovered my love of House Music & DJing. At the time I had no clue what I was even going to do with my life, I was living in boring El Paso, TX. Im originally from here in San Diego born & raised. Going to Coachella that year made me realize I want to be apart of this music industry. I made the quick move back to San Diego right after Coachella ended! I never looked back since! When I came to San Diego I started to provide Lighting to a local Collective called ‘No Expectations’ these guys gave me a space to grow in San Diego & a platform to showcase what Im capable of production wise & DJing wise. Since then I’ve just tried my best to stay busy with bookings or try to meet new people & network where I can. You never know who you’ll meet in this life! Everyone I have met since has been party of the ‘Tones’ project whether its a little part or big. 🙂
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been smooth. Aside from always having MASSIVE pre show anxiety. Man, that shit sucks! Maybe I shouldn’t be doing such a anxiety inducing task, but whats the fun in that! It Aways pays out in the end! The Journey has been quite fun & excited for bigger shows & more. amounts of anxiety!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make people dance (DJ). I wouldn’t say Im any different from others to be real with you. I just try to put out a vibe that others want to have fun with.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
