Conversations with Blanca Olmsted

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blanca Olmsted.

Blanca Olmsted

Hi Blanca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started professionally doing hair in 2009. I knew I always wanted to do hair since I was a little girl and I’m living that dream now. When I was younger, I’d practice braiding on my mom’s hair and on Barbies. As I got older, I did my own hair, my friend’s hair, and my family’s. I decided to go to school for cosmetology, and I haven’t looked back since! After doing a year or two of strictly adult hair, I knew I wanted to do more and work with children as well.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely wasn’t easy at first. Getting people to trust you with their hair and their children’s hair can be tough! As well as learning to cut on a moving kiddo, that was challenging. But I’ve definitely mastered it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a cosmetologist. I specialize in kid’s cuts and braiding. I have been working with kids since 2011. I am also certified through the OCALI Autism Certification Center to better provide support and service to my clients that are neurodivergent. I have been blessed to help so many children (& adults) become comfortable with haircuts. It truly makes me so proud to gain that trust. I use a multitude of techniques when working with my clients, and sometimes that means sitting on the floor playing and having a snack while I cut their hair. I am always willing to do whatever it takes to make them comfortable.

What makes you happy?
First and foremost, my family makes me the happiest. They support me in all my ideas and dreams. Also, my clients, they make me incredibly happy. They have become my friends and family, and I absolutely love them all, and I’m so grateful to have them. I look forward to seeing each and every one of them!
