Today we’d like to introduce you to Britany Walusko
Hi Britany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi,
My name is Britany and I started this organization back in 2020. I had been rescuing/adopting animals all my life, but then began fostering for other rescues here and there while I was a stay at home mom with little toddlers and my husband traveling a lot during that time for work. Fostering and independently rescuing and rehoming animals started out as a hobby and a way to fill my time and find a purpose for myself outside of just being a wife and mom. Through that, I realized how many farm animals everywhere needed help and that we didn’t have a livestock rescue here in Riverside – we have a few equine rescues but nothing for all hooved friends. Randomly jumping the gun, All Things Hooved formed and there was no turning back! Our organization is ran and operated solely by my husband and I now, and we have changed our lives and lifestyles around to accommodate our farm.
Both my husband and I originally grew up in the city and never thought we would one day own farm animals, let alone help rescue, rehabilitate rehome and give sanctuary to hundreds of livestock to date. However, we wouldn’t change it for the world and are thankful we get to raise our family with kindness and compassion.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Rescue is without a doubt not for the faint of heart. It’s rewarding seeing the lives you positively impact and change for the better, however we deal with a lot of witnessed neglect, abuse, suffering and loss. Always telling ourselves ” you can’t save them all”, “you can’t change them all” and the “what ifs” are daily battles we wish didn’t come with what we do. On top of things, we sadly deal with more animals needing help that we see those finding help. There are always more strays, owner surrenders and abandoned animals than there are rescues/sanctuaries with funding and space to help and private homes willing to take in and or adopt. Regardless of the hurdles, seeing the transformations of those we have been blessed with helping and lives saved, it encourages us to keep going and be thankful for those who support and help us along the way. That includes another upside – all the friends and fellow rescues we have made over the years! Them, private and silent supporters as well! When we say it takes a village….it takes a village!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What sets us apart from others is that we help with various animals – hooved, pawed, furry, feathered and more. Also, although we do rehome most of our intakes, we do give sanctuary to certain cases as well.
We specialize, though, in horses, goats and pigs in particular. We also do our best to make sure we educate our followers, adopters and community of species, behaviors, feeding, medical care, and how livestock animals shouldn’t be treated any different than your pet cat or dog!
Lastly, given we have kids of our own, we love impacting our youth through our organization. This is done through learning about our animals, their stories, helping with their care and teaching them positive work ethic, courage, humanity and empathy.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Taking a major risk….
As a start, starting and continuing this has been a financial, physical and emotional risk. Its a daily impact on all those three factors and on our family. Once it takes a toll on one family member, it affects us all. However, this is both positively and negatively in so many ways!
If there is no funding, its your personal funding. If there is no help, you are on your own. Sick? The animals dont care lol. Tasks still need to be done! Vacations? byeeee! Kidding, but its so much harder to leave the ranch for more than a few hours given how many animals rely on you. Rain or shine… its 24/7 work.
Regardless, for us, its been a risk worth taking and continuing!
