Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Brady.
Hi Brooke, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started with photography around the age of 12 years old. I received a camera for my birthday and would take pictures of anything and everything – be it family members, flowers in the grass outside, or my beloved pets. “The girl with the camera” became my identity while growing up in my hometown. I attended college and still carried my camera with me throughout – this is when I came to terms with my true love for photography. As graduation neared, I realized I wanted to continue on with a career in photography even though I hadn’t considered it legitimately at first (which was silly). The pandemic hit and then I thought to myself, “it’s now or never,” so I took the leap and decided to pursue photography full time. It was not easy at first, considering I moved to a completely new city across the country knowing no one. Now, it is my way of meeting people all over the country and connecting with brands I have admired for years. I love being creative, capturing the beauty of the world, and helping other businesses create content to inspire their own audiences.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, yes. I am so proud of how gracious I have been with myself throughout the entire process of moving cross country and starting a business all on my own. I am grateful every day for the opportunities I receive and the people I meet along the way. I feel so lucky to do what I do, it is insane! Sometimes, I really struggle with comparison and seeing other people “further along” in their business journey. In these times, I find comfort in inspirations such as the Ava DuVernay quote: “When you’re in your own lane, there is no traffic.”
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in brand and travel photography. I dream of someday traveling the globe, photographing beautiful hotels and brands, while also enjoying the food along the way! I am known for my beachy minimalist style and a friendly face behind the camera. I strive to make connections with people everywhere I go and as long as I contribute to hopefully making their day better, that’s all I can ask for. Truly, I just want to leave every place better than I found it.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I always strived to be perfect, but slowly figured out that is just not possible. I still find myself feeling that way in my work and sometimes it prevents me from just putting what I like out there. My goal going forward is to care less about what others think and realize you only get one life, so may as well do what makes you happy
