Conversations with Carly Lind

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Lind.

Hi Carly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a creative for as long as I can remember. My mother was a dancer, my father a singer though they met while working at the Nasdaq stock market.

In high school, after the market crash, my dad lost his job of 20 years. Watching him give everything to a company that discarded him like he never mattered lit a fire in me. I realized I wanted to pursue music, even if it meant uncertainty, rather than give my life to something that didn’t fulfill me.

I went on to Berklee College of Music as a vocalist and songwriter, built a following on YouTube, and moved to LA to keep growing. Less than two years later, my father passed away unexpectedly. Two years after that, my mother did too. My world turned upside down, and music had to take a backseat while I navigated grief, mental health struggles, and a string of emotionally unavailable relationships. I waited tables and felt like I’d missed my chance.

That changed when I met my now-husband, who breathed life back into my unfinished business. I began writing again, performing, and pitching to DJs and EDM labels, a niche I’ve always been passionate about. I’m still rebuilding, but this year, I heard two of my songs played at EDC Festival, and I finally feel momentum again. My next original drops September 19th.

While music and mental health have always been my core, I still needed to make a living. I was fortunate to learn from some of the best content creators in the game, and now I make content full-time turning creativity into my livelihood.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly no- I kind of touched on it in the last question but even that only skims the surface. There’s been a lot of loss, not just my parents but grandparents, other family members. Music has always been my constant to keep me getting out of bed every day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think I’m known for content creation mixed with my music and dancing. I really love being creative so I’ll truly take on anything I can express myself in. I started it by learning how to market myself in the music industry and it just kind of blossomed into this full fledged business. I love talking about mental health, my story and just what it’s like being in LA- just really staying as authentic as possible. I think what sets me apart from others is I am THE most stubborn person ever so despite all of my downs, I always get back up lol. No one can keep me down !

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When it comes to networking- my mentor actually told me this when I first moved here and I’ll never forget it- “always follow up” because 9/10 times people here in LA do not. Be the person who does and you’ll always have a network. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten a job just because I’ve followed up or have just been a reliable person whether it be with work or just a friend. Follow up and you immediately beat out half the population haha
