Conversations with Cati Lynch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cati Lynch.

Hi Cati, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I became a doula after moving back home to San Diego in 2016. I was a career nanny and longtime preschool teacher looking for something new. I took my training through DONA International and knew right away that supporting families Postpartum was exactly what I wanted to do. I worked briefly with a local agency, which gave me invaluable experience and a great example of what Postpartum Support can look like; by the end of my first year, I was so busy that I needed to bring on other Doulas. Now, almost 7 years later, we are a team of 5! Connecting with local families and providing them with the support that THEY need during such a unique time is something we each hold dear to our hearts. We truly love what we do here at Nite Owl Doula!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it has always been smooth, but it certainly has been worth it! With running a business, especially here in San Diego, there are always challenges. For us, the biggest challenge has been more on the business side of things. Learning the ins and outs of running a business and keeping up with all the to-dos However, I have been extremely blessed to have an incredible support system in place (>insert shameless shout-out to husband here), and I couldn’t ask for a better team of Doulas.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are Postpartum Doulas specializing in overnight support. Through overnight support, we offer our clients physical and emotional support during the postpartum period. We provide non-biased, evidence-based education and help families adjust as they welcome home their first or even their fifth child. Many of our Doulas are highly experienced with twins and preemies. All of us are extremely dedicated to the families we work with and go above and beyond to give them the best postpartum experience we can.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a quiet kid growing up but always loved animals, music, and books! Even as young as 6, I always took an interest in taking care of the little ones around me. In high school, I started helping at the church daycare and babysitting on the weekends.
