Conversations with Charlotte Lea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte Lea.

Charlotte Lea

Hi Charlotte, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in the UK, immersed in design through my parents’ menswear consultancy. After over a decade in the menswear industry, a transformative trip to LA in 2016 inspired me to change paths. I quit my job and pursued my passion for photography, initially focusing on food. In 2018, I moved to LA, where a serendipitous shoot of my then-boyfriend, now fiancé’s, furniture led me to interior photography. Today, I specialize in capturing the essence of interior spaces, working with designers, developers, and architects, and selling fine art prints. My journey has been marked by embracing new beginnings, taking risks, and constantly evolving my craft.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey hasn’t been entirely smooth, with challenges along the way. Starting my business in a new country, away from friends and family, was daunting. I had to juggle various roles, from marketing to accounting, while building a network and adapting to a new business landscape. There were sacrifices, sleepless nights, and moments of doubt. However, these struggles have been instrumental in shaping my resilience and determination. Overcoming these obstacles has led to the growth of a successful business and the privilege of doing what I love.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Charlotte Lea Photography, my focus lies in capturing the story of a home. I specialize in interior design photography, where I document the unique character and aesthetic appeal of various environments. Through my lens, I aim to showcase the interplay of light, texture, and design elements that define each space.

What sets my work apart is not only my ability to infuse creativity, authenticity, and a keen eye for detail into every project but also my commitment to understanding and interpreting my clients’ visions.
I take pride in building strong relationships with my clients, ensuring that their stories and aspirations are translated into the final image.

I am most proud of the connections I’ve forged with my clients and the trust they place in me to bring their spaces to life.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My perspective on risk-taking is intertwined with my journey as an entrepreneur. While some may perceive risk as daunting or intimidating, I see it as an essential catalyst for growth and transformation, albeit still scary.

The decision to move countries and establish my photography business in the U.S. was undeniably a significant risk. Leaving behind the familiarity of my home country, established connections, and a thriving career was no easy feat. However, I firmly believe that it’s often in the face of uncertainty and challenge that we discover our true potential.

Embracing risk has allowed me to push past my comfort zone, confront obstacles head-on, and pursue my passions and most importantly learn to trust myself more and more. It’s about having the courage to believe in yourself and your abilities.
