Conversations with Christian Mckittrick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Mckittrick.

Christian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was a product of a broken home, my mom left when I was 5. My dad was a police officer and passed away when I was 10 bringing my mother and her abusive husband back in my life where I spiraled out of control and became an addict through High School and was wandering the streets through my teen years. A friend of my mom’s saw my potential and put me through a nursing school in Point Loma where I found one of my passions (assisting Geriatric clients learn to ambulate again) as a Transitional Therapy Aide. From there, I went on to thrive in this industry, Graduating Valedictorian, being promoted twice in one year and forming valuable relationships with my peers. This was an amazing experience that molded my character and gave me a foundation to grow from.

In the late 2000’s my career path would take a dramatic change as the economy took a plunge. I would get the opportunity to continue my Education at a for profit institution where I graduated with an associate’s degree in business. I was one of a few students that was selected for a program called ATB (ability to benefit) as I was a high school dropout. I took this opportunity to become the best student I could be. Graduating with a 3.99 gpa and with High Honors. This would be the tone for my future career experiences.

From here, I was selected to be placed at the college for 30 days so they could report the number to the state for accreditation. Unbeknownst to them, they were hiring their next employee of the month. With this 30 day trial, I was responsible for getting students externships with medical facilities in San Diego County where they can apply the skills obtained through the program. I went on to place more students successfully in that month, outplaying the number 2 rep in the company by 37 students. This allowed me to be promoted to Career Service rep within 60 days. From here, I went on to work for 11 more colleges and placed more than 12,000 graduates in careers that met their qualifications and skill level. I have been employee of the year 2x, multiple awards and recommendations and I am responsible for changing that many lives through this process. This dedication and passion for helping young adults see their potential and allowing most of them to obtain their first job ever gave me the opportunity to become an interim Campus President at my final college.

I have spent the last three years working as an executive in the Home Health industry from an HR perspective. This allowed me to follow my passion for helping the elderly again, the only problem was I felt this industry was poorly handled, the clients were treated as $ numbers not humans, management was all about financial gain, employees were treated like animals as some would work 80+hours with poor pay. As I was in this role, a friend of mine reached out and told me about a placement role where I would be responsible for obtaining careers for high ticket sales graduates. This is where I am as of today.

I am the Placement Director for MB Closing Academy. In San Diego. This company and its culture is what dreams are made of. This is an organization that promotes success for the top down and then brings everyone along for the ride. This is my 3rd week here and I have already been able to change 27 lives with thousands to come. Getting people careers is my passion and I believe I lower unemployment statistics in California daily. Lol

I will see you at the top. That is where I am sending everyone and I can’t wait to see my legacy and the positive production it is going to produce in the future.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Drugs, homelessness, abuse, scandal, health threats, untruthful people.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I was in class one day with nothing to do so I wrote a children’s book and published it in 1 week. It was a story about not fitting in and pretty much about my childhood. Baileys Big Day was one of my major milestones.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Fishing with my father. We were at a fishing competition in Orange County and my dad and I weren’t paying attention. We landed an amazing size catfish (which turned out to be the biggest in the competition) however we caught it 30 min after the event ended. Hahaha. We laughed and made the best out of it. I remember that day so clearly. It’s my favorite memory.
