Conversations with Cole Marting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cole Marting.

Cole Marting

Hi Cole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I was raised in Carlsbad, CA, a life shaped by the Southern California lifestyle, anchored by the Pacific Ocean and a culture of public service. My journey took a turn in 2018 when I left this familiar setting for the nation’s capital. In Washington, D.C., I encountered issues of misguided governance similar to what I knew in California, but on a national scale.

My early adulthood was nomadic; since leaving my childhood home, I hadn’t settled in one place for more than two years. This constant pursuit of service and new experiences molded my style of writing and commentary, ultimately embodying a California Conservative perspective, focusing on hope and the rejuvenation of the state. California is worth saving!

What started as volunteer work on political campaigns and student government at an overwhelmingly liberal university quickly turned into political commentary and conservative writing. Now, my work ranges from sharp critiques of crime policy to insightful contributions in community papers on constitutional law.

My journey is quintessentially American, marked by resilience and adaptability. My early days included couch surfing and balancing multiple internships over 200 miles away from one another while simultaneously beginning to make my mark in national political and government roles, including positions at the White House, Congress, and the Republican National Committee. My dedication to public service is unwavering and steadfast throughout my entire life.

Despite experiencing both significant successes and challenging lows, my career continued. A notable highlight was the Amazon #1 New Release designation for my book, addressing California’s most daunting challenges. This achievement mirrors not just personal success but underscores the importance of the issues I passionately address.

My return to California was more than a homecoming; it marked a renewed commitment to the state’s well-being. My conservative values, advocating fiscal responsibility and robust community networks, are combined with conservative approaches to social and fiscal issues. My insights reflect a deep understanding of California’s multifaceted nature, acknowledging its diversity, economic strength, and natural beauty while also critiquing its governance, public safety, and socioeconomic systems.

My unique blend of governmental experience and grassroots activism exemplifies my comprehensive approach to public service. My success as an author, particularly with my book’s reception, highlights the relevance of my ideas and the urgency with which they resonate.

My story from a Southern Californian kid to a prominent conservative voice is a testament to perseverance, dedication, and the constant pursuit of a better future for both California and the nation. My story is one of overcoming obstacles, embracing change, and maintaining an unwavering commitment to service and community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve been in the minority political party for my entire life; in fact, California has not had a Republican in a statewide elected office since January 2011. This presents a huge uphill battle for me and my fellow conservatives. Nonetheless, I’ve challenged San Diego Republicans to begin discussing ‘Common Sense Conservative’ ways to solve California’s toughest challenges. From water scarcity to wildfires to our crippling homelessness crisis, there are a lot of problems to fix in California, and I believe the path to a more prosperous state is to tackle these issues with common sense.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work spans across multiple fronts, rooted deeply in a commitment to public service and a desire to address and solve some of California’s most pressing challenges. As a voice in the conservative movement, my efforts are aimed at bridging gaps, fostering discussions, and proposing pragmatic solutions to issues such as water scarcity, wildfire management, and the homelessness crisis.

I’m also working to grow the Young Republican movement in San Diego County as a Board Member of the San Diego Young Republicans, and across the entire state for the California Young Republicans Federation as the recently appointed Executive Director. Young conservatives are the future of the Republican Party, and it’s critical we build a robust infrastructure to recruit, train, and elect Young Republicans in our community.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
We need to get back to the basics of what it means to solve problems, remove useless government regulation, and focus on addressing the root causes of our biggest failures. California is not too far gone to turn around, and it is absolutely worth saving.
