Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Dorn.
Hi Dana, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Nate and I started our wedding photography business right out of college. We both graduated with a BA in Professional Photography. We’re married with two kids now, but our business, Lovers of Love Photography, was very much like our first child. Every year, we’re learning more about ourselves, more about each other, more about others, and more about photography. Being good at wedding photography has been a lot more about loving people than loving photography.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Technology and wedding trends are constantly changing and upgrading. In the past 13 years, photography tools don’t look the same now as they did. Pinterest didn’t even exist back then! The biggest hurdles would be learning new things that turn out to be really important, like SEO and TIKTOK, lead generation, and Facebook ADS. Business things that are outside of the art.
With so many changing elements, it can be easy to get discouraged; just when we arrive, we have new lessons to learn. We’ve settled into being lifelong students now. I’m glad we’re not at business alone; we are so thankful to have each other.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Nate and I photograph weddings for brides who are looking for a fun, comfortable, easy experience. We guide our clients through being intentional and present and help them focus on what matters most during their wedding day and wedding planning process. With so many things begging for our attention on any given day, it takes intentionality not to be distracted and be present. We create images that are full of life and love. We make sure our clients are comfortable in front of the camera and always have a good time. We deeply care about our craft and the people we photograph.
