Conversations with Dana Roselli (Theosis)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Roselli (Theosis).

Hi Dana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Theosis is Melodic Death Metal band that was formed in 2012 in San Diego, California. The band has put out 2 full length albums (“The Plague and the Heretic,” and “Overture of the Damned”), and are currently working on a 3rd record.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every band deals with obstacles and challenges. We dealt with a lot of band member changes over the years until we locked in our current line up. All band members have usually got along quite while, so we never had altercations or anything which is quite common in bands. Our biggest challenge is to learn the music. Our music is quit complicated to play, and takes a lot of time personally practicing as well with each other to be able to play it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Theosis is known for a unique Melodic Death Metal style influenced by bands such as The Black Dahlia Murder, Children Of Bodom and Arch Enemy (just to name a few). Dana is the main songwriter for the band. He studied classical and jazz at Cuesta College (San Luis Obispo), and San Diego State University, giving him a vast knowledge of music theory. Every member of the band has a certain song they are most proud of. As a whole, our song “Deadlights,” is not just our slowest song, but the most difficult to play. It has very intricate parts on guitar with lots of big finger stretches, a long double bass section on drums, as well as multiple tempo and key changes. What sets Theosis apart from other bands, is our harmonized riffs and solos, our lows/mids/highs/of our vocalist, fast blast beats and double bass, and bass riffs combined to make the sound which is Theosis.

What matters most to you?
What matters to us is just playing and having fun. We just want to play and give others and us a good time. Also, the challenge of learning our music is always exciting. Most musicians get really excited when learning a new piece, and that’s definitely the case with us.
