Today we’d like to introduce you to David Wade
Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
All Saints Church is a new faith community serving City Heights / Mid-City, San Diego. We opened our doors in February 2024, after a two year training experience at another local church alongside my wife, Candise.
Before becoming a pastor, I was the Program Director for a non-profit serving at risk youth in Barrio Logan for a couple years while finishing seminary. Before that, I completed my MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Michigan.
Our vision for church at All Saints is “One new family, empowered by God’s Spirit, to live and love like Jesus.” We value deep relationships as we follow Jesus across cultural divides, with a particular focus on exploring the gospel with artists and working class families.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, the journey has been beautiful so far, though not without its challenges. Learning to lead a spiritual community is a weighty responsibility, but seeing the fruit and transformation in people’s lives as they find meaning, deep friendships, and grow closer to Jesus has made it all worth it. Thankfully, we have a great team helping us carry the weight (and joy), some of whom we’ve known for over a decade!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a Christian church, we primarily gather on Sundays to hear the good news about Jesus of Nazareth, take communion, and worship God together. We also have a strong focus on smaller communities that gather across the city throughout the week to “share life” and live out all the “love one another” stuff Jesus talks about. We’ve done plenty of family dinners, too, where all are welcome to come share a meal, play games, and grow in relationship!
Beyond that, we’re coming up on our one year anniversary this February, where we will share our five-year plan with our community. Now that we are more established, we want to do more outreaches within the community, specifically to single moms and students. We are also launching our first Artist Initiative this year, which will culminate in an interdisciplinary artist showcase this fall as we wrestle with the human condition in conversation with ancient scriptures. I’m very excited about that! Our ultimate dream would be to have a teen center that doubles as a sanctuary on Sundays while being used to meet the needs of the community throughout the week.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If anyone is curious about Jesus, or hasn’t been to church in a while and wants a safe place to explore faith, slide through! We’d love to get to know your story and walk at your pace through the deep mysteries of reality 🙂
If any businesses want to collab or support the work we do as a nonprofit, shoot us an email. I’m very proud of our little church: In our first year, on a modest budget, we were able to give away over 10k to single parent families and outreach towards at risk youth.
