Conversations with Debi Ballow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debi Ballow

Hi Debi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Becoming a hairstylist—specifically a color specialist—was a natural progression for me. I have always been a creative, artistic person, and the fine details of layering and customizing beautiful tones serve as my creative outlet. Over the past twenty years, I’ve built a loyal clientele in the coastal area.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I guess the biggest struggle that comes to mind was the pandemic. That time definitely impacted our industry hard. Other than that, I don’t really see many bumps in the road. There have been changes, and I’ve had to evolve over the past two decades, but change can be a good thing. There’s a bit more work that goes into this industry now—aside from staying current with hair trends, you also have the tech side, like managing social media accounts.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I take a lot of pride in my career. I love getting to know new clients and building long-lasting, trustworthy relationships. I focus on each client’s desired look, designing a plan and hair color that complements their lifestyle. Creating a healthy hair journey is always my top priority.

I guess, I’m known as ‘the stylist who takes her time with big projects.’ I tend to be a bit quieter than other stylists when working, but that’s only because I’m hyper-focused on your hair. Over the years, I’ve learned a variety of approaches and techniques. I am able to lift even the darkest of tones to beautiful lighter levels, all while maintaining the integrity of the hair

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be winning first place at an art show when I was in high school. Honestly, I wouldn’t have even submitted it if it wasn’t for my art teacher. I didn’t think my work was worthy of entering. That moment taught me to be kinder to myself and to believe in my art. It is unique (just as each of us is), and it might not be for everyone, but you will attract those who see it for what it is.
