Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Gama
Hi Deborah , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started in Brasil, in the music school, I grew up trying to be different, so I got in the Bass guitar, I started making music videos and trying to make myself notice in the industry, then I started to make music for local bands, I posted my music videos on Facebook and Instagram, something on YouTube, so one day a music production company saw some of my music, and then I got the opportunity to work with professional musicians around the world.
I worked in the carnival entertainment and the Carnival cruise.
From the beginning to the end, everything I did was hard, but now I can just feel happy that I made my dream come true.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was hard the start of my career, my family wasn’t the best economically, but they always supported me and give me the opportunity to follow my dream, so I had some hardship here and there, but I always force myself to do what I had to do so I can things done, in Brasil the music industry is dominated by man, so it was hard to make my way up, so i had to work harder to make myself known.
I always had to compete to get in the music gigs.
Always giving my 200% so I can have an opportunity, but at the end of the day I see the fruits of the hard work I, and it feels great to see that all it’s happening as I dreamed, and I wanted.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional bass player, I work for recording studios as studio recording musician and arranger.
I am known by other musicians as the only woman who plays 7 string Bass.
If I can think what makes me different from others, I can say that I am the only woman that plays 7 string Bass, I have my own Bass guitar line brand, other than that, nothing makes me different, because the only difference between one to another is how hard you fight for your dreams.
I am so proud of every single work I have done, everything that I have accomplished in my life as a musician and as a woman, the respect that I have gained by others and my music.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I definitely learned a lot, I almost died from it, since then I have more appreciation for life and I always try my best like if it’s my last day.
