Conversations with Diana Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Hill.

Hi Diana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Pathways to Independence was founded 34 years ago as a grassroots organization with a bold mission: to empower young women from adverse backgrounds to break cycles of poverty and abuse through education and mental wellness. Over the past three decades, we’ve maintained an impressive 80% graduation rate, which is 18% than the national average. Our clients are required to keep a 2.5 GPA or higher, take a full class load in Fall, Spring, and Summer. As of spring 2025, our overall GPA for Pathways 40 clients is 3.24—an incredible testament to the strength and determination of our clients and the effectiveness of our approach.
Many of our clients come to us with no support system, yet they have shown extraordinary resilience, overcoming circumstances most cannot imagine. They refuse to let their past dictate their future.
We are a Social Impact Organization committed to a transformative process that fundamentally changes the trajectory of our clients’ lives. In turn, these women create ripples of change in society, fostering a lasting impact across generations and breaking down barriers for the future.
Our program is a long-term partnership between Pathways and our clients, with an average commitment of three to five years. This comprehensive support comes at an average direct annual cost of $33,000 per client.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having enough funds to serve all the women who need our help.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a nonprofit leader. The work we do changes lives and strengthens our society, yet I am also responsible for leading a business. Many people assume nonprofits don’t need business strategy or financial discipline. The truth is the opposite. Resources are limited and the needs are great, so every decision must be smart, accountable, and mission-driven. I have a strong business sense and a warm heart.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have been part of Fieldstone Leadership Academy and have found the connections and relationships I’ve made there very helpful in my work.
