Conversations with Diane Mandle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Mandle.

Hi Diane, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After spending many years in Europe as an actress and dancer, I returned to my birth country ( USA) with my 10 month old son as a single welfare mother. I did my best and somehow worked my way up from cleaning houses to the director of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, then of the American Cancer Center for Western Massachusetts. Somehow because I jumped on opportunities and learned by the seat of my pants. Having been raised in a bi-cultural family, I spent every summer and some winters going back and forth to France and traveling throughout Europe. The sound of different languages were just a part of my world and blessed me with a wide experience and perspective of the world. Then came travel to Africa, South America, the Caribbean and Asia. Evenetually I became a transformational coach and a Polarity practitioner helping people to access their potential and was presenting at an event in Northampton MA. That is where I met my sound healing teacher who also had a booth there. We exchanged information and decided to trade sessions to experience one anothers work. When I had my Tibetan bowl session it literally blew my mind and I KNEW it was my next step. I studied with my teacher, and after serveral years moved to California where I began a private sound healing practice in 2000. I realized so many people did not know about this modality and began touring with Sound Healing Concerts where I also offered infomation about the practice and the instruments..That led to offering workshops and eventually led to my opening the Tibetan Bowl Sound Healing School in 2008. To date I have trained hundreds of students to be etical and excellent practitioners in the US, France, India and meny other places.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been extraordinarily challenging. Being a single mom (eventually of 2 boys), working full time, in trying relationships, close family deaths, and even the exhaustion of touring has taught me a lot. I lost my home and everything in it to a fire when the boys were very small, My lifepartner passed away after 26 years of living and working together. Life is full of chaos. I learned to be a witness rather than a victim of my life. I learned to find the Gift in the Wound (my 2nd book/ memoir) and recognize that trauma and challenge are teachers if we allow them to be that way. I met people whose lives were more challenging than my own and who chose not to allow outer circumstances to define them. I learned that it is challenging to let love be the most important thing always even in situations that seem impossible.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think my life is my art, really. Moving through it the way I have and developing resiliance. But now, in 2026, my work as a Tibetan bowl sound practitioner and teacher is more about mentoring than performing or doing private sessions or sound baths. I am 75 and have trained hundreds of students. My joy is to support others in progressing in their field no matter their level. I learned so much working in the prison system and felt blessed to witness the men go from self-hatred, guilty, angry and dispondent to owning their beautiful essence, recognizing their power, worth and learning to love again, – even confined as they were. I believe I am known for the depth of my teachings which are a cornorstone to guiding practitioners to excellence.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Every risk taken is an embracing of trust, self confidence (even and especially when fear is present) and willingness to be in life as it presents itself. Taking a risk is an act of courage and courage is walking with the presence of fear- but doing it anyway. Most of the time it works out – but when it doesn’t it refines our practice of making choices. I never wanted to be a person who looked back on my life with regrets about the things I wanted to do but did’nt take the risk to do. So I continue to take risks.
