Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Laron | Mindset + Lifestyle Coach.
Hi Erin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In 2019, a lifelong battle with Depression, Anxiety, and C-PTSD landed me Intensive Group Therapy and resulted in a long list of new mental health providers and medications. Although not ideal, the situation changed my life forever and was the first step to creating balance in my hectic life. I was helped by so many people and I gathered skills and tools that were supposed to be the answer. However, I just found myself feeling stuck all the time, chronically overthinking, and still not feeling any balance in life.
In 2020, I was diagnosed with Autism which helped further explain a previous ADHD diagnosis, as well as provide some insight into why I was still struggling with the basics of life. Simple things like remembering appointments, knowing which task to complete first, grocery shopping effectively, and all the other “adult” tasks were supposed to know by default. I had lived my entire childhood and part of my adult life unknowingly Neurodivergent, which meant I was severely lacking the tools to survive as an adult but that there was now an answer.
My research and treatment highlighted a term I was very unfamiliar with, Executive Dysfunction. Executive function and self-regulation skills are the mental processes that help us plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully. Just the same as an air traffic control system at a busy airport safely manages the arrivals and departures of many aircraft on multiple runways, the brain needs this skill set to filter distractions, prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals, and control impulses. This vital skill set is what allows the average person to function as if they are the personal assistant of their own lives, yet it doesn’t come naturally to so many people!!!
At some point, I realized that no matter what the root cause is, overthinking and the lack of executive functioning skills are what hold back so many people!
Now, I spend my days as a virtual Mindset + Lifestyle Coach teaching Chronic Overthinkers how to transform their mindsets so that they can live and enjoy a balanced lifestyle.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease as a teen. Managing all that comes with that is a huge responsibility and can impact my ability to care for myself and my family. I must be diligent about maintaining a healthy balance in all areas of my life. Being realistic with myself and others about my ability has carried me very far. A project that would take the average person a month to complete may take me two or three, but that has never stopped me from attempting and achieving my goals!!
I definitely would not consider the journey to be smooth, but I have to say that I’m grateful for the lessons as they allow me to be the best coach I can be to my current and future clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I spend my days as a Mindset + Lifestyle coach teaching Chronic Overthinkers just like me how to transform their mindsets so that they can live + enjoy a balanced lifestyle.
My area of expertise is executive functioning. Executive function and self-regulation skills are the mental processes that help us plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully. Just as an air traffic control system at a busy airport safely manages the arrivals and departures of many aircraft on multiple runways, the brain needs this skill set to filter distractions, prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals, and control impulses. This vital skill set is what allows the average person to become the personal assistant of their own lives yet it doesn’t come naturally to so many people!!!
I’m most proud of being able to empathize and relate to what my clients have been through. I have taken my life experiences and gathered or created resources to enhance the lives of others and I’m proud of that. My ability to see the viewpoints of others and meet them where they are is what sets me apart from other coaches. I spend time asking potential clients the necessary questions to ensure their success instead assuming where they are in life.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
I believe that failing is the only way to learn and improve which you must take risks to do.
I tend to be a person who takes more calculated risks but will not shy away from the opportunity to shake up the tables. Those who take risks in life tend to live with less regret later, which is an aspiration of mine. To live the life I’ve been given fully while facing fear head-on.
