Conversations with Forrest Funk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Forrest Funk.

Forrest Funk

Hi Forrest, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I attended the University of Alabama and majored in Telecommunications and Film/Media Production. Never touching a photo-based camera. It was only video and editing. In 2018, I decided to purchase my first drone and got into aerial landscape photography, and the following year, I purchased my first Sony mirrorless camera. It was a mixture of self-taught and help from other fellow photographers. After working in Alabama for several years, I took a job in the desert of Southern California as the Director of Photography at Agua Caliente Casinos. I’ve never been outside of the southeast, and now that I’m living out west, it’s been a surreal experience so far. I am now in my 3rd year at Agua Caliente Casinos, and I continue to go on trips in hopes of capturing many amazing sights around the area and southwestern states.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not a smooth road with where I’m at today. I was going through a tough time prior to photography. Depression was taking over, and I needed a release. I was getting into hiking and being outdoors at that time, and purchasing my first drone really helped in lifting my spirits and getting myself out of my funk. It took my mind off of the negatives and got me back into my creative side. It’s a really great feeling knowing that photography has helped in making my life so much better. I’m still not totally satisfied with where I am today, and I want to broaden my horizons with photography even more. Hopefully one day I can become a freelancer and work with brands/travel agencies. I’ve never been outside of the states, so that would be a great opportunity to behold.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I can exceed more than just landscape photography. I specialize in commercial, food & beverage, event, and portrait photography as well. I can also shoot and edit video and create motion graphics.

I guess what I’m most proud of is my growth in the photography community. I thoroughly enjoy the photography world and the artist/creators I’ve met throughout these last 6 years.

I’m honestly not sure what sets me apart from others. All I know is that I’m a compassionate and genuine person who dedicates 100% to the goal of creating amazing photography and cinematic videos for people to enjoy.
