Today we’d like to introduce you to Fran Brown.
Fran, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a Torrance, California Native. In 2003 I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with an RN. I received a BSN in 2006 (University of Phoenix), then an MSN and MBA in 2017 (Indiana Wesleyan University).
I have always had an interest in helping people and nursing allows me to deal with a variety of aspects of patient care. My experience as a bedside nurse, critical care nurse, nurse educator, and nurse leader over the past 19 years has shaped my practice to work with clients and teach them about alternative ways to approach health and wellness.
In my most recent role as Director of Nursing, my focus has been on specialty infusion therapy. In partnering with pharmacies delivering Biologics, enzyme replacement therapies, TPN, and antibiotics I was able to identify the value in treating patients in their home or office as opposed to the infusion suite or doctor’s office out of convenience. Thousands of clients are leading normal, everyday lives working, raising children, and infusing medications at home. In early 2020 when COVID cases began rising, it was clear that people not only needed to feel better when they were sick, people were actually looking for a way to strengthen their body to prevent illness. Tapping into my clinical knowledge of the infusion space and what the community was lacking led me to opening up mobile IV Hydration and Vitamin services.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Unfortunately, entrepreneurship, contract negotiation, marketing, building a website, and finance is not part of nursing curriculum. Ironically, there are nearly 3 billion nurses working in some capacity of health care in the US, but collectively we have very little ownership in our practice. The biggest obstacle for me was to get out of my own head, which was plagued with doubt about my ability to take on the venture of being my own boss. Changing the narrative from “I’m not sure if I can do this” to “I absolutely can do this” was the hardest part.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a registered nurse with a mobile IV Vitamin and Hydration business, offering services to clients in their home, office, or hotel from. Service region includes Los Angeles County, Orange Couty, and San Diego County.
What matters most to you?
The best part of business ownership is the positive feedback I receive from my clients. If the client is not recognizing value in my service, then it’s pointless. I keep the mission and value I set forth when starting this business at the forefront of everything I do from the consultative services I provide, the products I use, and the time I spend with each client. I view each client relationship as a partnership whether I see them once or if they are a repeat customer.
