Today we’d like to introduce you to Freddy Barden.
Hi Freddy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We are a local band, originally growing up in the Encinitas area but moving down to Pacific beach after college. We started the band Kelp while in high school. After going out of state for many years, all of the band members moved back to San Diego about 2 years ago and we started the band back up! We’ve since released 5 singles, one EP and one full-length album.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been smooth in some areas, and a struggle in others. Musically and creatively very smooth. We picked up right where we left off, and the music writing and performing is better than its ever been! The tough part has been outreach and growth in our fan base, since we are older now and no longer in the high school/college scene it is tough to break out as a musical group.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a proud three-piece band, and like to keep things very raw to the musical instruments we play. Drums, bass, guitar, vocals. That’s it! We avoid adding electronic elements in most cases or over-producing our music, and try to keep things as true and honest to what they sounds like when you hear us live.
