Conversations with Gary Peterson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Peterson.

Hi Gary, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Gap Intelligence is a market research firm committed to doing great for each other, our clients, and our community. We follow our mission by providing our clients with the intelligence to make smart business decisions, building an environment that cherishes our peoples’ time, and proactively trying to make our community a better place. Born in 2003, gap intelligence has grown to serve the world’s biggest technology companies and raised over $500,000 for local charities.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After analyzing how much square footage we needed and where rent prices were heading, we decided to invest in our own building and after a long search, we closed on East Village’s 701 Island in February 2020 (perfect timing).

The pandemic forced us to work remote and apart from each other and as a result, we learned even more on our well-established culture to keep us going. Our values, our mission, and our commitment to each other kept us going through what proved to be the most difficult years of our lives and careers.

As we built out our new space in East Village, we wanted to make our new headquarters a place where we can all reconnect, celebrate ourselves, and have a home that all gappers – both in and out of San Diego – would be proud of. Our spot on the Island is our home and beacon for gap intelligence worldwide.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We didn’t land on 701 Island just to do business and go home, we are here to make an impact. You’ll see us handing out “I See You” kits to those suffering from homelessness in the neighborhood (an idea adopted from the San Diego Rescue Mission). You’ll see us volunteering with local organizations, you’ll see our logo, you’ll see our people, you’ll see us celebrating local muralists (shout out to Todd Murphy Art) as well as our fellow East Village businesses including the good people at West Brew (our soon to be favorite neighbors) and the San Diego Padres. We’re here to stay!
