Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Valdez.
Hi Gina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated with my bachelor’s in science from Cal State San Marcos in 2009 and went straight to grad school at the University of St. Augustine in San Marcos, CA. I graduated in 2011 with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I have worked in Outpatient Physical Therapy most of my career; this includes anyone after a surgery, ACL repair, ankle sprain, shoulder, you name it, I’ve probably seen it. I have also treated neuro patients, from; strokes, Parkinsons, and traumatic brain injuries, and the list goes on and on. I decided to dive into Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy when the clinic I was working for needed someone to step into that position. I received my continuing education classes through Herman and Wallace to specialize in all things Pelvic Floor. I now see 99% Pelvic Floor patients, and I LOVE what I do! My career is so rewarding! I get to bring hope to people that had no answers for a long time. I am able to give patients hope and understanding for their specific condition. I am able to spend time with them, to hear their story, and put their heart at ease when I tell them that they WILL get better. I see patients of all ages and diagnoses. From 16 y.o. with constipation to 80 y.o. women with incontinence or prolapse. I get to guide these individuals in their journey to healing through simple, holistic, and effective techniques to improve their quality of life. In 2022 I traveled to Illinois to learn a technique called Mercier Therapy. This specific technique, created by Dr. Jennifer Mercier, helps women to conceive. It has an 80% success rate of helping women conceive within the first year of treatment! It is natural, holistic, and it works! It is gynovisceral massage to the reproductive organs. What does that mean? It is deep external massage to the reproductive organs to increase blood flow, decrease any restrictions, and “wake up” the area to get it working properly. I love what I do, and I enjoy working with women from all over San Diego County.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been smooth road of treating patients and growing in my knowledge as a Pelvic Floor Specialist. I think the challenges that arise are balancing my career and passion for helping my patients/clients and being a mother of three young kiddos. This is why I am diving into treating patients in their homes or having them come to my home clinic in Vista, CA. The challenge I face is the lack of knowledge and understanding of what a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist actually do and how it can help many different diagnoses of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. So many people with urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, or bowel issues will greatly benefit from this treatment. It is very effective and underutilized by doctors everywhere.
Also, Mercier Therapy is not well known, but it has such a great success rate and SHOULD be the first line of treatment if a woman is struggling to become pregnant. It is a fraction of the cost of IVF, has a greater success rate of IVF, and there are no medications, no injections.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Physical Therapist and Mercier Therapist. I treat women who are experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction, such as incontinence, pelvic pain, pain with intercourse, constipation, prolapse, and so much more. I also treat women who are struggling to conceive. I treat women with infertility with a manual technique to improve blood flow and circulation to the reproductive organs. This goes hand in hand with proper nutrition, supplements, and hormone balance. I treat my patients in the comfort of their own homes. This sets me apart from many other professionals because it can be challenging to leave your home with young children or babies. Or those that are working from home do not need to leave in order to come to their physical therapy or Mercier therapy appointments.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Women can work with me by contacting me and setting up an appointment for an initial consultation. It is always good to chat on the phone prior to treatment. I can answer any questions or concerns. If there are any gynecologists, urologists, chiropractors, general practitioner, obstetricians that see this patient population, they can always refer their patients to me. It is great to let all medical professionals know that my service is available. I strongly believe Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy is underutilized and that there are more gentle ways to conceive.
