Conversations with Giulia Chlarson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giulia Chlarson

Hi Giulia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started G’s Footprints for a project in college a little over four and a half years ago! It started as a blog that detailed my vacations, experiences at popular restaurants, and travel itineraries. But, one common theme was always food. I loved to share my experience and highlight what made each place special and delicious and if I would recommend to others.

When the pandemic hit, I was a senior at Sonoma State University about to graduate with a degree in Communications and Media Studies. We didn’t get the rest of our final year or a graduation and, during this time, I couldn’t do what I loved most- go out to eat or travel. I turned to social media as a creative outlet and started posting relevant visual content that corresponded to my blog posts. As time went on, and my page developed, it became my primary focus. I connected with local businesses and fellow foodies who were sharing similar content and I got hooked!

I began to take G’s Footprints more seriously when I started contributing content to LOCALE Magazine in 2022. This relationship took my account to new heights and has helped me build relationships with businesses in the Food and Hospitality industries across Southern California. I have learned so much by working with fellow creators, business owners, and agencies on the foodie side of social media. I now use G’s Footprints to create authentic and meaningful content for the places I love and want to share with others!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest struggles in my social media journey was pivoting from writing copy to taking photos and video content. I enjoyed photography as a hobby but needed to relearn the techniques, then ultimately pivot again to learn video filming and editing when TikTok and IG Reels became the priority. Social media is ever-evolving, so as a creator, I have to be adaptable in order to keep up with the changes.

Another tricky aspect of this career is standing out amongst fellow creators. Creating unique content can be challenging while also trying to find a niche and build a brand identity that my audience can connect with. I had a difficult time sticking to a strategy that would help me grow and reach new followers, but once I found my voice and overall tone, the rest seemed to come naturally.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Since graduating four years ago, I have committed to the freelance/contractor role rather than taking the corporate route. I have worked solely in Social Media for three and a half years in different pockets of the industry. I specialize in Social Media Management and Content Creation for local businesses and brands, helping them with their online presence.

My page, G’s Footprints, focuses on food and beverage, and hospitality. I share local eateries, cafés, and experiences while intertwining travel and accommodation, as well. My goal is to highlight hidden gems and provide an authentic and realistic approach through digital storytelling.

I’m most proud of the relationships and network I’ve built with my community! It’s exciting to constantly learn, connect, and grow alongside other creators.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I hope when you come across G’s Footprints, you’ll find something you enjoy and want to try for yourself! I’m so excited to continue sharing recommendations and dive into different corners of the hospitality industry.

Currently, I am working on growing my online presence across other platforms and hope to continue creating content that locals- and visitors alike- can enjoy!
