Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Taylor.
Hi Jack, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been involved in many aspects of the wedding industry. In 2009, the journey began by initially performing in various wedding bands and later cooking for weddings, thanks to my degrees in both music performance and culinary arts. This unexpected path eventually led me to wedding planning and after attending hundreds of weddings, getting married myself, and always having a camera in hand, I realized where I truly belonged: behind the lens, capturing the magic of wedding days and serving amazing couples.
Years later, I established Taylor Film Co., named in honor of my family and inspired by the incredible team members I’ve met along the way (“co.” representing collaboration and cooperation). Taylor Film Co. specializes in creative wedding photography and cinematography, with a focus on meticulous planning and creating fun, memorable experiences for our clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a wedding photographer and videographer comes with its unique set of challenges. The pressure to capture perfect moments in a fast-paced, often unpredictable environment is intense. There’s really no room for error, as these are once-in-a-lifetime events where missed shots or technical malfunctions can’t be redone. Fortunately, working as an executive chef for years taught me how multi-task and concentrate in challenging, fast-paced or stressful situations. Moreover, my experience touring with bands and improvising live music has trained my mind to make quick, on-the-fly decisions. Balancing creativity with the need for precision, while managing the expectations of couples who often have a very specific vision for their big day, adds another layer of complexity. Additionally, the physical demands of carrying and organizing heavy equipment, working long hours, and constantly being on alert to capture spontaneous moments require both stamina and focus. Despite these challenges, the reward of creating lasting memories for couples and getting to be in a creative flow-space makes it a fulfilling endeavor.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Taylor Film Co., I specialize in crafting heirloom-quality wedding photography and cinematography that beautifully captures each couple’s unique emotions and stories. I’m recognized for my personalized approach, keen attention to detail, and ability to make couples feel at ease, resulting in authentic and natural photos and films. What sets me apart is the blend of professionalism with a warm, fun-loving demeanor, ensuring that the wedding day is both beautifully documented and truly enjoyable. I’m so proud to be able to create lasting memories that couples and their families can cherish for a lifetime. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that the moments I capture will be passed down through generations, allowing people to relive the emotions, joy, and love of their special day. The trust that couples place in me to document such an important event is something I take to heart, and it drives me to deliver exceptional work every time.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
In this industry, networking is crucial—without a strong community and the trust and friendship of other creatives and vendors, achieving success can be challenging. While there are many paid networking events available, I’ve found that working diligently and treating other vendors as clients, with a focus on being helpful, personable, and sincere, has been most effective for me. For those looking to enhance their skills, I suggest reaching out to admired professionals to inquire about shadowing or working with them. Offering value in return can be a great way to learn and build connections. Authenticity and being yourself are key to making a lasting impression.
