Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Kohl
Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I met Dr. Candace LeFlame (whom I fondly called “Canders”) in high school when she started dating my younger brother. It’s rare for high school sweethearts to stay together, but they’ve proven the exception. Seventeen years later, they’re still going strong, and Candace feels more like a sister to me than anything else. My brother followed her across the country—literally from coast to coast—for medical school, residency, and fellowship.
Meanwhile, I was working as an ER nurse. After a decade in that role, I ventured into medical aesthetics as a “fun side job.” I quickly fell in love with the blend of medical knowledge and artistry in this field, which led me to pursue aesthetics full-time. I immersed myself in trainings, conferences, and webinars, captivated by how medical procedures could enhance self-care and confidence. As a passionate supporter of others, this became a cause close to my heart.
When Dr. LeFlame first proposed starting our own practice, I felt both intrigued and hesitant. Although we possessed advanced skills in medical aesthetics and a strong commitment to patient-centered care, neither of us had experience in business ownership, and we were uncertain about what lay ahead. Candace envisioned a local office dedicated to nurturing patient relationships and crafting comprehensive treatment plans. Our goal was to create a welcoming space for individuals from all walks of life, where every patient would feel comfortable and supported throughout their aesthetic journey. What began as a casual conversation quickly evolved into a deep passion for transforming the industry.
Thus, WellCulture MedSpa was born—a concept rooted in fostering a culture of wellness in medical aesthetics, with a focus on each patient’s unique ethos and individuality. Our dreams came to life when we opened our doors in Sorrento Valley. With the support of friends, family, and the community, we’ve transformed lives by helping our patients build confidence. We proudly stand by our motto: “Confidence is for everyone. Period.”
Together, we are not just redefining beauty; we are nurturing a space where individuals can celebrate their unique selves, blending our medical expertise with genuine care to help them discover their inner confidence.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
SO. MANY. STRUGGLES.
As a doctor and a nurse, transitioning to business owners has been a huge leap, and it’s not something we learned in school. We had to learn everything on the fly. It’s not impossible, but having a strong support system makes all the difference! There were many days we questioned whether we could keep going, but our mutual support allowed us to lift each other up in tough moments. I can’t even count how many times Candace talked me down from a meltdown!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have always been deeply creative. Growing up, I was captivated by painting with Bob Ross and eagerly rented craft books from the library (back when the internet didn’t exist!). This passion for art naturally translated into my work, as I believe that recognizing the beauty in individuality is essential for creating effective treatment plans. I am best known for my comprehensive treatment strategies and full facial rejuvenation, prioritizing natural results that leave patients looking “refreshed” rather than “overdone.”
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I won a bodybuilding contest in 2016!
