Today we’d like to introduce you to Javier Camarillo.
Hi Javier, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up as the child of immigrant parents in California’s Central Valley, golf always seemed like a sport reserved for the old and elite. I moved to San Diego in 2011 to study architecture, and while I didn’t know it at the time, this city would become home to my creative passions, my family, and eventually my business.
Everything changed in 2018 when my cousin invited me to a driving range. I was instantly hooked after launching a ball what felt like a mile—only to realize I couldn’t replicate the same shot again with the same ease. That challenge ignited something in me. Shortly after, I made a random OfferUp purchase—I was just looking for a cheap driver head and ended up buying an entire garage full of golf clubs for $100. That accidental haul sparked my curiosity, and soon I was flipping clubs to fund my growing obsession with the game.
With a background in architecture and physics, and having grown up playing competitive soccer, I’ve always had a thing for precision, structure, and performance. That mindset naturally translated into golf and building custom clubs.
One night, I filmed a time-lapse of myself deconstructing a set of Nike irons and uploaded it to Instagram. The video exploded. I was flooded with messages from golfers—new and experienced—asking if I could do the same for their clubs. One custom job led to hundreds of monthly inquiries. Thankfully, our clients love sharing their builds and our process, which has allowed us to grow without needing paid ads. Our cinematic build videos grab the attention of anyone who’s ever wondered: How are golf clubs built?
Before any of that, I learned how to actually play golf at local spots like Tecolote Canyon, Balboa Executive, and National City Golf Course. The culture there is all about camaraderie, not scorecards. I met some of the coolest people—players who care more about good vibes, laughs, and fresh air than their swing tempo.
SuperSwings Golf started in a garage in Chula Vista, moved to an outdoor shed in San Diego in 2022, and is now preparing to launch a public storefront just north of Old Town San Diego on West Morena Blvd. This new location features two 15-foot-wide, state-of-the-art simulator bays for play, training, and custom fitting; a tour-level workshop with the finest components and modifications; and a full strength training gym in collaboration with James Wheeler, owner of Locomotion Athletics.
Our mission is simple: SuperSwings Golf is bridging the gap between style and performance in golf.
With our new space, we’re building more than a workshop—we’re creating a place for golfers, club tinkerers, and gym enthusiasts to connect, hang out, and grow. We’ll feature three premium golf club manufacturers each year, rotating them based on what our members actually want. Whether you’re leveling up your gear, your swing, or your strength, SuperSwings is your new home base.
We’re truly blessed to have such an amazing community of local and global golfers who believe in what we do. Everything has grown organically, and we’re proud of that—because we’re not here to sell golf. We’re here to bless your sticks and help you experience it at its highest level.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road—but every bump has shaped what SuperSwings is today.
One of the biggest challenges has been pricing. We charge more than the competition because we’re committed to tighter tolerances and unmatched attention to detail. We don’t crank out builds—we craft them one by one. That level of care sometimes leads to longer lead times, and in a world that’s all about “fast,” that can be a tough sell. But we believe quality should never be rushed.
Another major struggle has been the learning curve. Everything I know about club building, refurbishing, and plating—I’ve taught myself. There are no schools, no formal teachers offering this kind of hands-on golf craftsmanship. Every service we offer started because a golfer asked if we could do it. When someone asked for a loft and lie adjustment, I bought the equipment, practiced on my own clubs, and ruined a few in the process just to learn the technique the right way.
It’s been trial by fire, but I wouldn’t change it. That hands-on hustle is what built SuperSwings—and it’s what keeps us pushing the standard for what custom golf should look and feel like.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At SuperSwings Golf, we specialize in high-performance custom golf clubs built with tour-level precision and unmatched attention to detail. We take pride in crafting each club by hand—no shortcuts, no mass production. Everything is built one at a time, tailored to the unique specs, swing characteristics, and personal style of each golfer we work with.
We’re known for blending style and performance—our builds not only perform at the highest level, but they look the part too. Whether it’s a raw finish wedge, a custom-plated putter, or a full iron set dialed in to exact tolerances, we make sure each club reflects the personality and performance needs of the player.
What sets us apart is our approach. We don’t just build clubs—we document the process through cinematic videos that show people how it’s done. Transparency and education are part of our brand. We’ve been fortunate to grow a loyal community by showing the “why” and “how” behind every build. We’ve never relied on paid ads—our work and our clients speak for us.
What I’m most proud of is that this has all grown organically. Every tool we use, every service we offer, was added because someone in the community asked for it. I’ve built this skillset from the ground up, learning everything from club bending to refinishing on my own. And now, we’re about to launch a one-of-a-kind space that brings together club fitting, golf performance, and a place to just hang out with others who love the game.
Our goal has always been the same: to help golfers experience the game at its highest level—and to bless their sticks while we’re at it.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to work with us is to reach out directly—whether you’re a golfer looking to get fitted, a creative looking to collaborate, or a brand that wants to be part of something authentic. We’re always open to connecting with people who share our love for golf, performance, and craftsmanship.
