Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanne Scott.
Hi Jeanne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am an Army brat and grew up mostly in Northern California. I’ve wanted to be in TV/Film production since age 9. After highschool, I went into the Army for 4 years and when my term was up, I landed a job (ciivil service) working in TV production at Ft. Dix, NJ. From there I moved back to California and started my full career in this industry. I also went to college at San Diego City College (telecom major) and volunteered for any opportunity that crossed my path to work in production. I was fortunate enough to get involved with Sports TV live broadcasts (including theater productions), scripted corporate and broadcast commercials, etc. Within a few years I ended up crewing for sports while working as a stage manager for MLB, NFL, ESPN and most all other sports like, hydroplane racing, wrestling, boxing, basketball, golf-you name it. Very fun but working mostly evening and weekends kept me away from my family so I decided to only continue producing and writing for my husband & my company, American Dream Cinema. We’ve been in business together for over 30 years and now are launching a new product called “Whiskers in the Galaxy” which is a children’s animated short series to assist parents with calming videos for their children to watch as they learn an important life lesson with the kitten’s adventures in space that ends with a custom lullaby as the kittens (and hopefully children) fall asleep. We have 6 in the can and plan to launch in November!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think it has been pretty smooth yet there are always struggles within projects. Just the normal variants of people not showing up for work, the weather, script changes on the fly, and such. Nothing that can’t be adapted to.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At the start of my career in California, I was working for a hospital and I made commercials for thier CCTV on the optional meals available for the families of patients. I also set satellite coordinates for live in-house educational credits for the physicians and other health workers in Salinas, CA. My next staff job was working in San Diego for a broadcast equipment sales company which was very educational for me. Knowing about how current industry video equipment is used and how businesses are run was very helpful for our own company, American Dream Cinema. Both my husband, Devin Scott and myself have been awarded several Emmys for our commercial work and we have also received many accolades and awards for our. short films and documentaries.
Any big plans?
The big future plan is for Whiskers in the Galaxy to become a household term. We hope to assist parents and educate/entertain children with our video series. Then we plan to create merchandise for sale, using the kittens’ characters and adventures they have gone on.
