Conversations with Jiri Tomanek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jiri Tomanek

Hi Jiri, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey as a tattoo artist with a passion for creating meaningful, one of a kind pieces. Over time, I developed a distinctive aesthetic that blends neon lights, 80s VHS, and synthwave influences, elements that have become the signature of my brand.

My career has taken me across the world, tattooing internationally and connecting with clients who appreciate not just my work but the emotional depth behind it. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is seeing how people recognize my brand and how my tattoos leave a lasting impact on them.

Along the way, I’ve had incredible opportunities, including work in amazing cities like San Diego, where I first collaborated with Reese Hillburn and her shop, The Edge Ink. These experiences, combined with my dedication to my craft, have helped shape the artist and entrepreneur I am today.

Beyond tattooing, I’ve expanded my brand into merchandise, graphic design, painting and creative marketing ideas. My goal is always to push the boundaries, not just in my art but in how I connect with people and build a lasting, recognizable brand.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a long journey, full of obstacles. Envy from peers and traps set by competitors were things I couldn’t avoid, and they were tough lessons to learn along the way.
On top of that, tattooing is incredibly time-consuming. To refine my skills and push myself to the next level, I had to sacrifice countless weekends and sleepless nights. There were moments of exhaustion, but I knew that dedication and persistence were the only way to truly stand out and build something meaningful. I soon learned that discipline and persistance matter even more than pure talent.
Despite the challenges, every struggle has shaped me into the artist I am today, and I wouldn’t trade that journey for anything.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a professional tattoo artist specializing in unique, vibrant designs that blend elements of watercolor. My work is known for its bold colors, fluid compositions, attention on detail and the emotional connection I create with each piece. I don’t just tattoo I build a visual language that resonates with my clients and makes my brand instantly recognizable.

What sets me apart is my approach to storytelling through tattoos. Each piece I create is more than just ink on skin; it’s an experience, a personal statement, and a lasting memory for the person wearing it. My clients often tell me how people recognize my work immediately, and that’s something I take great pride in. It means I’ve built something truly distinct in an industry where standing out is no easy feat.

I’m also proud of how I connect with my clients. I value the relationships I build, whether it’s someone traveling across the world for a session with me or someone who’s been following my work for years and finally gets to sit in my chair. That connection is what makes my work meaningful.

My goal is not just to be a tattoo artist but to create an immersive artistic experience that stays with people long after they leave the studio.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is hanging out with my best friend, someone who has always been like family to me. We’ve been on the same wavelength since day one, like brothers. He became a musician, and I found my path in tattooing. Art found both of us, just in different forms.

Some of the best moments were after school, when we’d spend hours drawing satirical cartoons that made us laugh until we cried. It was pure creativity, no limits, no pressure just two kids having fun, shaping our artistic paths without even realizing it. Those memories still mean a lot to me, and our bond remains just as strong today.
