Conversations with Joe Beauchamp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Beauchamp.

Hi Joe, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Joe Beauchamp and I grew up in the lower mainland of British Columbia, Canada. My life has been somewhat of a rollercoaster growing up with ADHD I had trouble with some things that come naturally to others but art was always a big part of my life, and letting my creativity fly free was something that I needed.

For quite some time, my artistic side took the back seat while I entered adulthood, I had a son at an early age and then life really got in the way and although I did continue to create, I would spend quite a few years trying to use my creative side to build my skill set in an office atmosphere.

When I hit my late twenties, I was starting to have the urge to let loose and began to gain skills in painting which was never something I focused exclusively on in the past. This lit a fire in me and I started to practice, try new techniques, and really enjoyed working with abstract art, why was I avoiding this my whole life!

Present-day I have been selected for some local art shows, had my work up in a local cafe and my creativity is lighting the way. In twenty years, I am sure I will look back and see even more growth but for myself, I am happy with what I have accomplished so far.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not, although I appreciate that I have had some things in life that many haven’t. That being said, my ADHD has made adjusting to life a bit of a hardship, and holding on to work can take all I have to stay afloat. But we all struggle in our own ways, there is no such thing as a smooth road.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Abstract art is my main focus although I have had some other styles that I have played with, digital art and graphic design have also been an outlet over the years. But I have found that there are no limits to abstract art, which opens so many doors to try new things.

What matters most to you? Why?
Well, that’s not exactly easy to answer, there are so many things that matter, but I suppose if I had to narrow it down to a few things it would be to create an experience for others to enjoy and live a life that I do not regret while following my creativity wherever it takes me.
