Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Masters.
Hi Jordan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi there! I’m Jordan, and I’m the hands behind the Knottery. I’m a Washingtonian/Californian, cat mama, and macramé artist. After graduating from SDSU with an International Business degree, I entered the working world, spending about 5+ years in sales and recruiting. However, like most people, my job was heavily impacted in 2020, and I felt the universe urging me to get back to my creative roots. In the midst of a global pandemic, I left my job, took a leap of faith, and dove head first into macramé and entrepreneurship. I now sell my handmade products at local farmer’s markets, pop-ups, art festivals, local stores, online, and wholesale. For the past year and a half, I’ve also been able to share the art of macramé with the community through monthly workshops and classes. I am forever grateful for the support of the San Diego community and where a little creativity and a lot of hard work and dedication have taken me and my small business!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road, but I’m so grateful for every bump and bruise I’ve endured along the way. I’ve learned a lot as a small business owner, but something that I continue to be challenged with is the multi-hat-wearing struggles that I’m presented with every day. One thing I think we all forget is that behind every small business is someone who is not only creating the products that are being sold but someone who is managing the business’s website, the social media content, the photo editing, the customer service, and sales support, the trials of launching new products that sometimes don’t take off like we had hoped, the promotion and advertising of their business, the actual selling of their products, the inventory management, and the sleepless nights of filling orders so that their customers can receive their custom pieces as soon as possible. But even through the occasional multi-hat wearing struggles, I couldn’t feel more blessed to have these stresses in the first place.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create handmade macramé pieces, including plant hangers, wall hangings, keychains, earrings, yoga mat straps, and more! Right now, I’d say I’m most known for teaching macrame workshops throughout San Diego. I host workshops at local breweries, wineries, plant and gift shops, youth camps, dentist offices, and even backyard parties. I absolutely love getting to share the art of macramé with others and seeing people bond and come together as they create their own unique and beautiful pieces.
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
