Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Alberto Flores
Hi Jorge, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story in music started back in middle school with my best friend Chris and his brother Ryan. Ryan would put on beats and freestyle to them and that was my first introduction to songwriting and finding beats. At the time I started learning to record and produce to help them out with that aspect of the music. In High School I wrote my first song and it was based on Call of Duty: Black Ops II when my cousin and I used to play “One in a Chamber” a lot. I took my first Audio Production class in 12th grade and that grew my love for the production and engineering side more than before. From then I decided to study Music in Higher Education and pursue the production and creative part of it.
After graduating from Cal State San Marcos I decided to take a chance and rent a music rehearsal room in San Marcos and that is where I base my Music Studio out of. Because COVID was going on at the time and we were quarantined for a while, I chose to spend all of my time focusing on music and setting the foundation of where I am today. It has been a good time having the opportunities to collaborate with the many different local artist. It has been helping me feel more comfortable in public and in front of people as well. I am now working on multiple projects for this year, my own and other artists as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been many struggles along the way and they have also guided the growth. One of the biggest struggles was the self confidence of even starting to think about music as my career. This held me back because I did not put my focus and energy towards the music from a younger age and in school as well. This led me to switching my major in school a couple of times until finally going back to music.
Another struggle that I encountered was being able feel comfortable in front of crowds and being on the microphone as well. This is also partly the reason why I was more focused on producing beats instead of making songs when I was younger. At the time, I did not see myself being up on stage and now I see this as an obstacle I will conquer the more I practice and put myself out there.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Artist/Producer/Engineer and I would say I specialize in the Boom Bap Hip Hop genre. I am currently more known for my production than my own music because of the collaborative projects that I have done. I have worked with Southbay Nino, Sham Blak, Calikfresh, K.Oh!, 7Octoberz, Izzy Neutron, and a couple other artist.
I feel most proud of the single called “The Most High” that I released because of the feel and the message that I tapped into with that one. It is a song about being thankful and the difference between living in your head vs. living in the moment and the positive ripples you create.
I feel that what sets me apart from the mainstream music is the soul in the production and the knowledge with the lyrics. I would consider my music to be like Underground Boom Bap, like my inspirations DJ Premier, The Alchemist, Evidence, J Dilla, and many other Producers like them. I also feel me being able to produce my own music, write my own lyrics, mix and master my music, shoot and edit my music videos, allows me to move a lot faster and freely as well in the creative community. I am able to start something from scratch and see it through to the end.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
There are new projects that are in the works and will be coming out this year. I have been working together with two other artist as a group and I am excited about the work that we have been creating. I have my project called “IgnoRant” on Spotify and Apple Music that I recently released and a single, “The Most high” as well for the listeners to enjoy.
