Conversations with Jorge Gaspar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Gaspar.

Hi Jorge, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Vicarious PR was founded in 2017 by two former games journalists and content creators who saw first-hand the challenges with how games were being marketed. Having been on the receiving end of uninspired and overly generic campaigns, we recognized an opportunity to do things differently. We believed in the power of authentic storytelling combined with transparency and data-driven insights, and that belief became the foundation of Vicarious PR.

By 2020, we expanded our role in the industry with the creation of Vicarious Publishing, a boutique indie publishing label. Our goal was to support developers from concept through launch, bridging the long-standing gaps between developers, publishers, and marketers. Too often these gaps created inconsistent product messaging and confused development direction. By eliminating the middleman, we were able to bring clarity, alignment, and ultimately launch a number of successful indie titles to market.

From there, Vicarious Holdings was formed to serve as the parent company for our growing family of brands. We soon welcomed Six One Indie into the fold, a team that has become a staple in the indie community through their Indie Showcase, Indie Game Awards, and ongoing industry spotlights. Their creative energy and strong media connections have further expanded our reach and strengthened our ability to serve both developers and audiences worldwide.

Most recently, in 2024, we re-launched Vicarious PR’s marketing philosophy with a refreshed vision and new service offerings. In addition to our established PR expertise, we added advertising solutions to help indie studios amplify their visibility and build stronger brand recognition in an increasingly crowded marketplace.

Today, under the Vicarious Holdings umbrella, our companies work together to empower indie developers with the tools, strategies, and storytelling needed to not only launch their games, but to truly stand out.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To borrow the words of The Ancestor in The Darkest Dungeon: “The Old Road will take you to Hell, but in that gaping abyss, we will find our redemption.”

Like any startup, we faced our share of trials and tribulations. In the early days, building trust as a new PR and marketing agency was no small task, convincing studios to take a chance on us was one of the steepest hurdles. By leaning on industry relationships and proving our value, we were able to grow alongside other indie labels and sharpen our craft in real time.

The COVID pandemic brought a unique wave of challenges and opportunities. While gaming saw an initial financial boon, the industry now finds itself in a period of reckoning. Investment has slowed dramatically, and venture capital is increasingly focused on established IPs rather than the “next big thing.” This shift has put pressure on indie studios and the ecosystem that supports them.

Fortunately, Vicarious Holdings has always emphasized conservative fiscal management and forward-looking strategy. By carefully evaluating where the industry is headed and preparing accordingly, we’ve positioned ourselves to weather downturns and continue supporting developers even in uncertain times. We view each challenge not just as an obstacle, but as a chance to adapt, refine, and emerge stronger.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Vicarious Holdings has grown into a multifaceted organization that continues to expand both within and beyond the games industry. At our core, we are known for authentic storytelling, data-driven marketing, and our ability to adapt to an ever-changing landscape—but our vision has evolved into new arenas.

Most recently, we invested in the future of artificial intelligence through the annexation of Verified AI and its flagship product, OQTO. With a talented team of developers, we are creating practical, innovative AI tools designed to bring efficiency and clarity to complex industries.

We also launched Vicarious Athletics, an upcoming baseball and softball training facility in Oceanside, California. By combining athletic tradition with cutting-edge technology, we aim to analyze and enhance player development, helping athletes evolve their performance in measurable, meaningful ways.

In the gaming industry, the Vicarious name has become synonymous with meticulous story-crafting and honest, results-driven campaigns. At Vicarious PR, no two strategies look the same—we study each client, uncover their unique story, and design marketing and advertising campaigns that maximize impact and return on investment. By leveraging advanced tracking and technology, we pivot quickly to ensure that every dollar spent works harder for our clients.

Through Vicarious Publishing, we go beyond simply putting games to market—we partner with studios that pour their passion into their projects, and we support them every step of the way. Our focus is always on publishing games people want to play, and that passion translates into real commercial and community success.

And finally, Six One Indie has become a beloved voice for the indie community. Their Indie Showcase, Indie Game Awards, and constant celebration of indie games have established them as one of the most charismatic and genuine advocates in the industry. Their passion is contagious, and the community has responded with overwhelming positivity.

What sets us apart is that across every venture—whether games, AI, or athletics—our brands are fueled by passion, backed by data, and committed to making a meaningful impact. That’s what we want readers to know: Vicarious Holdings is more than a collection of companies, it’s a philosophy of authentic storytelling, innovation, and community-building.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Vicarious Holdings will continue to grow and evolve as new opportunities arise, and we’re always open to meaningful collaborations across our brands.

For Vicarious PR and Publishing, we actively seek media and influencer partners who want to help us amplify indie games to wider audiences. We’re also looking for developers who are passionate about bringing unique, innovative games to market. Submissions can be made through publishvicarious.com. Our process is highly selective—we typically take on only one or two publishing projects at a time—so that every title we choose gets the full attention and resources it deserves.

With Six One Indie, there are several ways to get involved. We host the Six One Indie Showcase twice a year, with submission calls opening months in advance, and we close the year with the Indie Game Awards. Developers and fans can follow along on the Six One Indie website or social channels to stay informed on dates and opportunities.

Vicarious Athletics is in its early stages, but we’re excited about what’s ahead. We’re currently partnering with local little leagues and travel ball organizations to build an Oceanside training facility that leverages cutting-edge technology to analyze and elevate athlete performance. We welcome collaborations with partners who share our vision for advancing athletic development in North County San Diego.

Finally, Verified AI is actively seeking funding partners. With multiple prototypes already in development, Verified AI is building practical, forward-thinking tools for real-world use. Those interested in exploring investment opportunities can connect with us directly through the Verified AI website.

Across all of our ventures, we’re looking to collaborate with people and organizations who share our values of passion, innovation, and community-building.
