Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Yazdian.
Hi Josh, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Retro Windbreakers started as a side hustle project in 2018 when I was working for my dad. I wanted to start selling vintage so I started thrifting everyday after work. I started to collect sports windbreakers for the next two years. Once I felt like I had enough options for consumers, I started developing a website to sell the jackets. In August of 2020, we started selling windbreakers online. The journey has been evolving over the past couple of years. We started with just online sales then we adjusted the business to start selling at farmer’s markets around San Diego. While working in markets, we were able to sell more products along with networking with people throughout San Diego and the United States. The evolution of Retro Windbreakers has taught me a lot about business and about consumer culture in the United States when it comes to vintage products.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There are many obstacles that you’ll have to overcome when running a business. The road to success is bumpy but it’s a fun ride. Along the way, you will meet new people and new opportunities will present themselves. Don’t be afraid to take risks. You will fail and you will get down on yourself. But you have to keep your head high and push through the tough times. Your failures will teach you how to be smarter and guide you to where you ultimately need to be.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We love being creative specially through social media. Back in 2017 when I was working for my dad’s company, I was creating commercials for social media platforms. When I launched Retro Windbreakers, I knew that I would need to advertise through social media. I created an Instagram and TikTok page. My love for videography has helped me network with such amazing people around San Diego and the world. Content creating is a passion of mine and it brings me joy seeing people in the product I sell.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Both of my parents. They have put me in the position to be successful since I was a kid. They put me in the best schools and they taught me how to be confident. They are truly my role models and best friends. Without them and their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
