Conversations with K. Kerr

Today we’d like to introduce you to K. Kerr.

Hi K., can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
As an avid music listener of the Southern streets, I started writing rhymes at the age of 13. Scared of what my peers would say, I shared very little and only rapped within my own thoughts. Once more comfortable in the Navy though, I would show my writings to coworkers and seek a reaction, whether good or bad. Their kind words of wisdom motivated me to continue pursuing music professionally, practicing my voice and delivery every chance I got. This was the developmental stage of The Komodo Dragon, K. KERR.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest obstacle has always been the Komodo Dragon. He tends to trip over his own two feet and seeks validation from others. Needs someone in his ear at all times, gassing him up, while dodging constructive criticism. But believes to have the big picture mapped out in his vivid thoughts, yet having trouble navigating the jagged terrain and rough seas alone.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When I first stepped on the scene, an elementary school teacher was on the agenda, knowing my music and education would eventually conflict if I was to prosper on a much larger scale. After graduating from SDSU, I worked among Veterans and grew a bond within the community. For the first time on the clock, I felt rewarded for my accomplishments, similar to music. I have spent eight years in higher education and continue to provide my services to those in need.

Any big plans?
I look forward to dropping my next album and all the monumental moments that come with it. From recording, mixing, mastering, collabing, filming, it’s all a wonderful experience when you can share those memories with some of your closest peers.
