Conversations with Karissa Castillo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karissa Castillo

Hi Karissa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my photography journey in my senior year of high school. I photographed a few families and high school proms. I started to take my business seriously this past year and have honed in on my niche: weddings, couples, and graduates. I aim to serve the people I get to photograph and strive not just to be their photographer but also their cheerleader, storyteller, and supporter in the beautiful season of life they are in.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has not always been easy. “Comparison is the thief of joy”…, and, like many other creatives, comparison has been one of my biggest obstacles. There are so many other photographers whose work is incredible and who have been in the business longer than me, but each photographer has something unique to give. This is also the first year I am taking my business full-time, which is terrifying. Not having a consistent paycheck is scary, but God has given me this passion, and as long as I walk in obedience to what He has called me to, everything will work out in the best way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wedding, couples, and graduate photographer. I believe that photos are more than just images. They’re cherished memories, moments, and milestones. I’m dedicated to capturing these fleeting moments with timeless quality. I believe in preserving the beauty of reality by editing each image to maintain true-to-color accuracy, ensuring that each detail is a genuine reflection of the moment. I give all glory to God for this business He has entrusted me with, and I am extremely thankful for the people I get to serve.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned in my photography journey is that there is always more to learn. I will never reach a point where I know everything about photography. There is always room to grow, and I am thankful there are so many wonderful and talented photographers I get to look up to and can learn from.
