Today we’d like to introduce you to Katlyn Wilson.
Hi Katlyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am born and raised in San Diego. I have always had a passion for hair ever since I I was a kid, I taught myself how to French braid and anyone I knew with long hair I begged them to let me braid there hair! I started working in the industry when I was 21 and assisted and receptioned at a salon. Anything to get my foot in the door. I would always watch all of the stylist that I worked with so I could see how the would color or cut someone’s hair, I wanted to be able to tackle anything. I took every walk in that came in and slowly built my clientele. I also attended as many classes as I could. And I still do. I love learning and growing in this industry. It not only keeps you relevant but it helps you grow as a stylist. I know have my own salon suite in la mesa and I get to do what I love everyday. I have been doing hair for 14 years now and I can say it is one of the most rewarding careers. I have built a bond with many of my clients that I can now call friends.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not!
As a baby stylist I always wondered, would I make it? Would I ever have a full clientele? And it comes with time. You hit a lot of bumps in the road and people move away or you don’t click with certain people. In the beginning it hurts but as you grow in this industry you realize you can’t please everyone. I recently moved back to San Diego after being away for 4 years so I am rebuilding my clientele and I have the same thoughts as I did as a baby stylist. Then I have to give myself a pep talk. You got this, keep the faith the people with come!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
