Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Ho.
Hi Katy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in a small town, Wadsworth, Ohio. Growing up in a first-generation Asian-American family, I was steered to go into a career that provided financial stability which was either in law or healthcare. I completed my bachelor’s in Applied Nutrition & Food Sciences and learned in one of my summer internships that I did not want to work in a clinical setting. During my senior year’s holiday retail job, I was scouted by an entertainment lawyer who worked at a talent agency. She pressed me, asking if I’d ever thought about a career in modeling. After a couple of months of consideration, I enrolled in this lawyer’s recommended modeling workshop in the spring of 2018. Upon graduating and getting representation (signed) to a mother agency, I thought I was going to be the next top model in the same year. A few months go by without any bookings, I started to take matters into my own hands and build my editorial & fashion modeling portfolio alongside photographers and creatives all over Ohio. After an additional year, I signed up with my current mother agency, Heyman Talent, and booked my first eCommerce catalog or print modeling gig within my first 2 weeks. Now, how bout that? Since then and through the pandemic, the rest is history. I got called to move to Los Angeles, CA in 2021 to pursue the entertainment industry further too. Crazy enough, a Super Bowl commercial gig of me golf-modeling for Visit California 2022 kickstarted my pursuit of TV/film acting too, alongside my freelance content creation and Californian Real Estate ventures as well. I love creating and being around the creative energy in SoCal!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Coming from a small market in Ohio into the entrepreneurial modeling industry is quite the roller coaster! I’d wear so many different hats! From juggling my w-2 job, planning, directing, and building out my modeling portfolio, I had to take PTO to do creative gigs and sacrificed a lot of vacation time. I’ve always been hungry and had to test many workflow systems to make creative entrepreneurship a full-time reality. Moving to Los Angeles, too, I had to fail a lot and start fresh from square one with every rejection too. I got really good at adapting and being flexible in order to perform my best in my new ventures.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a full-time freelance & agency model, social media content creator/entrepreneur, and soon-to-be licensed CA real estate agent!
I am most proud of creating my lifestyle around my passions and helping others make their visions into reality too, whether its helping people buy/sell their Californian home/condo, being a photo-concept consultant, photo editor, content creator, or social media virtual assistant, I am here to serve and help you win at life!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the diversity in food & cultures. Traffic and lack of abundant parking are what I like the least about the city.
