Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Russell.
Hi Katy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Spiritual wellness interested me from a young age. I started exploring this realm by visiting tarot readers as a teen and wandering through metaphysical shops. In my early twenties, I expanded to finding a psychic-medium mentor and knew that this was where my passion laid.
When I moved across the country from New Jersey to southern CA, that mentor encouraged me to find a spirit circle where I could hone my skills and be amongst like-minded people. It was during one of these circles that I had the opportunity to learn a bit more about reiki, as we explored different metaphysical avenues each week. I didn’t fully embrace that path until I became my grandmother’s caregiver and realized how much that practice could help both her and I.
I researched Reiki Master teachers and found one that felt like a great fit for me. I did my level one and two training in an intensive weekend training in Carlsbad on 2/22/2015 and completed my Master level training with the same instructor in Portland, OR on 12/5/2015. I knew at this time that Reiki would become not only a life skill but also a career for me. I wanted to share this practice with as many people as I could, so that they could receive the same healing that I did. Reiki changed my life.
I began offering sessions and classes out of my home and then approached the local college, Mt. San Jacinto College, with a Reiki certification program that I ended up teaching through their Adult Education and Workplace Training program. I also returned to the east coast and taught at my former mentors’ wellness center. Then the opportunity to see clients and teach reiki presented itself at Sage Sanctuary in Wildomar, CA. This amazing holistic wellness center was exactly what I needed, not only for my own exploration of wellness but to also share what I had learned and been trained in with others. Two years later and I’m still one of the original practitioners at this beautiful location and I couldn’t be more honored. I’ve met the most wonderful group of practitioners and clients that I learn and grow with each day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Part of healing is embracing the struggles to allow growth and thus healing. Both as a teacher and student of life, I’ve been able to have an awareness that my struggles are teaching me a lesson. I was battling chronic illness and couldn’t fully step into my own healing until I stepped away from a 9-5 job that was keeping me miserable. When I finally took the leap, the right opportunity presented itself.
Sage Sanctuary opened three weeks before the Covid shutdowns. We found ways to go online and continue offerings, as this was a time when people needed healing most. Somehow the owner was able to maintain and persevere.
It’s also a practice that requires constant self awareness and understanding that you are not healing others, you are simply holding the light as they heal themselves, this is a huge ego check, which is also part of healing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Intuitive Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. I see clients one on one for healing sessions, as well as teach and certify others in Holy Fire III ®️Reiki, along with other classes pertaining to energy healing, such as crystals, pendulums and more. I’m known to not only channel reiki energy but also the energy of loved ones who have passed. Some of the areas I specialize in are fertility, inner-child healing, anxiety relief and spiritual exploration.
I’m most proud of my students that have been embraced this practice for their own healing and also for them sharing it with others, continuing the ripple effect.
My authenticity sets me apart from the rest. I am who I am and I encourage you to be fully and authentically yourself.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’ve been fortunate to have a family that has recognized my spiritual path and has encouraged me to continue this work. Having a spirit circle of like minded individuals helped me to have the confidence to pursue different avenues of healing modalities. Each client and student I’ve had gives me the fuel to continue, even when I’m questioning myself. Finding a home at Sage Sanctuary has opened the most doors for me and helped me to share my light with as many people as possible.
