Hi Kelsey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I created Tail Blazer Co Dog Walking out of pure desire to bring my passion and love for dogs and nature to life. The start of this business came during a very sad time in my life. But it was a passion for over 10 years… knew I needed to create a business out of this passion since I was raised with/working with animals. I grew up on land and a ranch where I learned to raise and train dogs, cats, horses, chickens, goats, etc etc! The comfort animals brought me helped me get through a lot of trauma I faced growing up. Horses in particular were my safe place, the most healing part of my day was when I was riding on the back of a horse. When my father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2020 my 9-5 full time job became complicated as I started a caretaker role and needed more flexibility. Fast forward a few years, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy in June 2023, then 2 months later both of my grandfathers passed away, then 2 months after those losses, my father passed away.
This was so traumatic for our entire family to experience these losses all together while also dealing with first time motherhood postpartum and health complications of my own.
I knew at this moment I had to do something I truly enjoyed to bring in income while living in Sunny San Diego. SO, I decided to bring my passion for animals to life by offering dog walking and pet sitting in my area. And this was the start of Tail Blazer Co ◡̈
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle has been finding a balance with charging customers fair prices while also making a living as a working mama. Yelp helped me reach customers, as well as my website on google. But with how many dog walking apps and walkers and pet sitters there are out there, it was a struggle to find a way to really stand out while also making a living out of it. There’s got to be balance of course!

I am known for my friendly, genuine and caring personality that makes your pet feel comfortable and cared for in your absence.
I am proud of building a business on my own in the midst of chaos and grief of loss of my grandfathers and father while also caring for a baby and family. I am expanding, and looking to hire people who would love to do the same as me and offer the same genuine and love and passion for animals as I do! ♡
I believe that my over 10 years experience with walking, training, and overall care for dogs and animals sets me apart from your average “dog walker” who is probably looking to walk your dog and collect a few bucks from you.. that’s not me. I genuinely care about your pets. I bring them treats and toys if the owner allows it, I take time to connect and create a bond that I want to continue long term, not just a one-and-done situation. I am a long term investment for your furry friends.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
My story started off on a sad note, but that’s what makes me empathetic and caring for not just your pets but for the owners too. I love to connect with humans, but especially animals. I’ve turned my grief into caring for others and animals and to truly enjoy what time we have here on this lovely earth with our precious pets. I have 3 dogs of my own, 1 of them is a lovely little girl pup we rescued from the streets of sayulita while vacationing there in September of 2022. She was a little skinny pup and had a broken hip. We adopted her and flew her home with us back to San Diego. She’s pure love and shows how much she appreciates life every single day! Her 2 brothers love her and have welcomed her with open arms. Now she rules the house. I know what a scared and nervous dog is like, and how to show them love. I know how to handle energetic cattle dogs (like my own) and I know how to adapt to a pets needs based off of their body language and cues.
