Conversations with Kim Dybczak

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Dybczak

Hi Kim, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was interested in photography as a young girl and dabbled in it for years but decided to make a business of it in 2020. I used to develop my own film and prints in high school before everything became digital. I loved that aspect of it. I have spent years photographing my own 4 children and many other families but really became interested in coastal landscape while I was photographing my boys surfing. I feel so inspired when I’m at the beach. I love all coastal locations but I’m particularly drawn to the beaches in San Diego. Every beach is so unique.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am completely self taught so every aspect of my business has been very challenging. From learning about my camera and comprehensive photo editing software to creating my own website, the hours have been extensive. I spent over a year just watching videos and researching before I started selling my photographs but the hard work is paying off. It’s rewarding to get positive feedback from so many thoughtful customers.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in fine art prints of California coastal landscapes and I am known for my soft, muted tones and creative perspective. I am proud of my hard work and determination to pursue something I’m so passionate about. I strive for the highest quality in my prints and frames.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I wouldn’t say I’m a big risk taker but I definitely took a risk on starting my business. Putting yourself out there and not knowing if anyone will appreciate your art is risky on a personal level. I think whether you succeed or fail, it’s important to take risks. You don’t know if something will work until you try. And when you do succeed, it’s gratifying.
