Today we’d like to introduce you to KLAXX.
Hi KLAXX, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name’s AJ and I go by the name of KLAXX. I’m a DJ/Producer/Artist from Encinitas, CA born and raised!
I graduated from San Dieguito Academy in Encinitas in 2014. SDA was where I first started DJ-ing as a hobby in 2012. I attended Cal State University San Marcos for 1 year. That’s when I picked up producing music, and I fell in love with it. After that year of college, I didn’t really want to do that anymore. I wanted to go to music production school to better my skills.
I attended one of the top music production schools in the US called ICON Collective College of Music in Burbank in 2016. That is when I started my artist project ‘KLAXX’. Originally, I began the journey with a duo partner. We ran it together strong for a couple years, and then he left the project. Now I’ve been doing this project solo since the end of 2019! After my year at ICON ended in 2016, I stayed in LA and I’ve been living in the LA/OC area ever since!
Ever since 2020, I’ve had the opportunity to release music on some dream labels of mine, and tour the country performing in so many places for the first time ever! Right now, I’m working on so much music, including an album I just started writing.
I’m so excited for everyone to hear the new music I’ve been writing and I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve gotten and the more to come!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the main struggles I’ve had, and still have, is being patient and trusting the process. I’ve been working hard toward being where I want to be as an artist, and that is going to take time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a DJ, Music Producer, and Artist. I make electronic music and I’m known for making high-energy music! Mainly I’ve been writing trap, dubstep, melodic bass music. I’m heavily influenced by indie/alternative music, so I’ve been incorporating those inspirations into my music lately! I’m so proud of the sound that I’ve created for myself. You can tell it’s a KLAXX song when you hear it, and I think that’s so important.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
It may sound cliche, but hard work and dedication to the craft is so important. And also make sure you’re having fun while doing it. Don’t make a certain sound or type of music just because it’s ‘popular’. Make the music that genuinely makes you happy, and you’ll be the most productive.
