Today we’d like to introduce you to Loryn Purvis.
Hi Loryn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved creating delicious and beautiful food – I graduated from San Diego Culinary Institute in 2011 and had a background in catering and events—but this business was born from passion and necessity. Picnic Grazing Co. started in April 2020 in the middle of the pandemic . My husband’s business had shuttered due to lockdowns and the cooking school I taught at was also temporarily closed, so we needed to keep our family afloat. Enter charcuterie boards! I posted a photo of one charcuterie board I made on my personal Instagram, and within hours, I started getting requests. From that one post, things snowballed. Friends told friends, and soon I was creating and delivering custom grazing boards all over Southern California.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any business in the hospitality and event space, the road has had its curves. We started Picnic during the height of the pandemic when gathering safely outside became more important than ever—but we quickly realized that creating unforgettable experiences is about so much more than setup and food. It’s about logistics, customization, client expectations, and managing countless moving pieces behind the scenes.
One of our biggest early challenges was streamlining our process to scale, while still keeping the personal, curated touch our clients love. Over time, we invested in systems, partnerships, and a team that allows us to execute events at a high level—whether it’s an intimate picnic for two or a corporate brand activation for 200 guests.
Those lessons helped us create a B2B-friendly experience that event planners, businesses, and agencies can trust to elevate their guest experiences without the stress.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Picnic, we specialize in artfully curated charcuterie and grazing experiences that elevate events of all sizes—from corporate gatherings and brand launches to weddings and private celebrations.
Our focus is on beautiful, abundant, photo-worthy displays that spark conversation and connection. What we’re most proud of is our ability to create a sense of occasion through food—whether it’s a luxury grazing table at a gala or individual charcuterie boxes for a client appreciation event.
What sets us apart is our commitment to quality, local ingredients, and presentation that feels both elevated and approachable. For event planners and businesses, we make it seamless by offering customized packages, branded experiences, and reliable delivery with a white-glove touch. We love becoming part of a planner’s toolkit when they want to add that unforgettable “wow” moment to their event.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
This business is tough so work hard! If you truly enjoy what you do though it won’t feel like work.
