Today we’d like to introduce you to Louise Canton.
Hi Louise, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born across the pond, and come from a fine art background. When I reached the right age, I studied Photography in one of England’s fanciest art Universities. After assisting the top fashion photographers in Sydney, Australia I came stateside, and now work as a fashion and portrait photographer in San Diego, California (though since I like to get about I’d be more than happy to take your picture pretty much anywhere else too). Ah, and I was lucky enough to win a couple of awards for my work along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I struggled getting into the fashion photography scene when I moved to Sydney, Australia. It’s tricky getting into a tight-knit industry with no contacts. To breakthrough, I bought lots of magazines, went through to find my favorite fashion photographers and basically stalked them online and cold called them until I secured some experience assisting.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in women’s portraiture with an editorial feel either for personal or professional pictures. Most of the women I take pictures of have not been in front of the camera before so it’s quite a thrill directing and seeing my subjects come alive.
What are your plans for the future?
While most of my shoots are on location (we’re so spoiled here in California with the variety of locations), I hope to get a full studio set up in the next few years.
