Conversations with Madison Geist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Geist.

Madison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My love for art and photography started at a very young age. I come from a family of artist, so I believe that their encouragement and example is what inspired me to continue to pursue what I was passionate about! In school I took photography courses which then lead me to begin doing photography professionally. I went from photographing friends every day after school to getting my first real clients. From there things snowballed and I was able to make photography my full-time job and the way I support my family. Getting to the point where I am in my career has taken almost a decade, and I definitely owe everything to my mentors.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing great ever is! As I mentioned, I began my photography business when I was young and still in school. I went through many moments of “can I really do this?” or doubting if I was qualified for many projects. Being an artist and a business owner can weigh you down sometimes because if anything goes wrong it goes to directly judging of yourself and what you’ve created. It’s hard to find a balance of art and business. Luckily, my clients hire me for my specific photography style so they’re always happy with their photos!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a couples, family and wedding photographer. I specialize in portrait photography, and I am known for my bright, warm, colorful and candid photographs. We are lucky to have so many beautiful locations around us, and I really try to capture the amazing landscapes in my photos as well. If you think of Mattie Taylor Photography, you probably think of photos on the beach because that is what most people hire me for, photos on the beach!

What sets me apart from other great photographers is the experience I give my clients. I prepare all my clients with everything they need to know to feel confident and ready at their photo session with me. We work together ensuring every detail is set so that their photos look exactly how they’ve dreamed them to be!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I think that the mindset of community over competition is really beautiful and something every business owner should adopt. I have found that the more you help others the more opportunities you’ll be given. I try my best to be an open book and am always looking for ways I can serve others best. I also think it’s important to have a thirst for knowledge and always be investing in yourself to improve. Every time I take the leap of new education, it’s taken my business to the next level. I try to do this as much as possible so that I can give my clients the best photos and experience as possible!
