Today we’d like to introduce you to Mafioso Maj.
Hi Mafioso, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
a.k.a DeMajzae Mobley. I’m a San Diego based Rapper, Singer, Songwriter and Producer. I was born and raised in Southeast San Diego, where it’s known for its diverse structure being influenced by the community was a big thing. Came face to face with a lot of things from drug-infested neighborhood and gang violence. I found myself in and out of trouble and going down the wrong path until I found my passion for music around 15 in Freshman year at Madison High School. I began recording music putting all the pain into harmonic words and fell in love with the art itself. I began working with many San Diego artists and gain notoriety throughout the city and beyond. Ten years later year here I am doing outrageous number of shows at local venues and beyond. Co-signed by Los Angeles Artist YG and Bay Area artist Nef The Pharoah. Currently unsigned but am writing and recording out of studios here in San Diego and Los Angeles.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing was ever easy. When I say I’ve had it hard, man life just loves having its way with me. But all the struggles and obstacles have been my fuel for success making me want to go even harder to achieve my goals. The ranges of struggles is so vast I can’t even go into detail, but most importantly I am the oldest sibling of three and my two younger brothers are autistic. I devote most of myself to making sure they get the best opportunities and same treatment in life anyone else has access too.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well, I’m one of San Diego booked artists as in show wise. I make music at a high octane and consistent with my craft in creativity. Recently released three albums in the past year available on all streaming platforms. Mi Vida Brazy was the debut album just introducing the way someone with of a walk of life similar to mine views his experiences. Following Phazes and Omertà were released. Also, I have a broad amount of music videos that did a tremendous number of views. People say I have one of the most original and unique sounds and it’s refreshing to hip hop lovers. I also sing and make reggae music as well considering my Rastafarian roots. What makes me special from the other is the truth beyond the lyrics, these words are coming from a place of pain and traumatic experiences and learning to heal from there through an art. I am most proud of myself for staying this dedicated to my craft, even though it hasn’t been a long rough journey.
What makes you happy?
At this point in my life, happiness comes with laughter and a sense of comfort. Music and family makes me happy to be honest. The art of it just fuels your spirits and reaches your mind and heart through your ears. It can alter your mood, really that powerful communication to the persona. And family of course, I love the sense of comfort and have people who love me for who I am and who I’ve become and for who I was in the past, and sharing memories is very vital as well.
