Conversations with Mariam John

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariam John.

Hi Mariam, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been opposed to being told “no”. I always make my thoughts a reality. I’ve started working since I was 16 to make sure I was able to get everything I wanted from an early age. As soon as I was of age, I moved out to Los Angeles to expand on my independence. I didn’t continue living there after my lease ended, so I moved back to San Diego. I took my time traveling Europe and as many states as time allowed me to. Traveling solo gave me such a wide perspective of people and life, I feel like I’ve mentally aged! I understand why people do the things they do or react the way they react in so many situations now; it’s like a universal connection I’ve made in my head. During my time traveling, I’ve done photoshoots to expand on my personal portfolio and something I’ve enjoyed. All of these experiences have created me into the attentive and understanding person I am today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I poured my heart into all my dreams! I always pray before going to bed whether I should chase a specific dream or not. If it’s meant to be, things seem to worth out smoothly. Sometimes, when it wasn’t meant for me, completing that goal was impossible.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
During college I studied business and worked my way into a role in finance! I did that for five years. I then decided it’s time to let go because I have a goal lined up in another field. I won’t speak on it yet because it is in the works, but I’m young now and I need to try it while I have the chance! I don’t have my own family with children, so I need to take advantage of my time at this moment!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Take every risk! This is how I matured so quick! As the eldest in a first generation, I had no choice but to try things with no looking back! Moving and traveling to different locations solo are the biggest risks I’ve taken and I stand by them! Do it!

Here’s a risk! I love shooting! Reach out to me via dm if you would like to work!
